Lada Granta is one of the best budget cars in Russia. It has earned its popularity due to its favorable price and good reliability with minimal maintenance costs. In the context of the crisis that has been ongoing since 2014, Russians were forced to pay attention to the domestic automobile industry, and Lada Granta became a recognized leader in the category of cars, the production of which began in the 2010s.
Russians buy Granta both for family use and for work. However, one of the decisive factors when choosing is the technical parameters of the car, including trunk volume. Based on the manufacturer's data, we can estimate the trunk size as 480 liters. This figure brings the domestic model closer to the car of the world famous French manufacturer Renault - the Logan model, which has a trunk size of 510 liters. This parameter for the “Frenchman” was formed on the basis of the theoretical calculations of the developer, and it was assigned to the Granta sedan on the basis of numerous factory tests and experiments. In addition, the cost of Renault compared to the price of Lada Grant is fabulous.
Many people recall the famous statement of the President of the Russian Federation during the Granta screening at an event in Tolyatti. Having looked at the trunk of the presented car, the Head of State summarized that at least 2 bags of potatoes can fit into this trunk. This incident immediately prompted the developers to conduct an experiment on maximum trunk capacity.

Please note that two ignition keys are included with the liftback. The one with the red mark on the end is best stored separately from the worker, since it opens both the doors and the trunk. You can separately purchase a trim for the trunk along with a set of tools and a seal. It is installed using the included screws.
The installation can be done alone, but, according to the advice of experienced car enthusiasts, it is better to do it together. Perhaps additional noise insulation would not hurt, since it remained the weak link: impacts of stones and oncoming air flows are very clearly felt by ear when driving.

The width and height are the same: 1700 x 1500 mm, but the length is shorter by as much as 150 mm, and is 4246 mm. Inside the cabin, the proportions are maintained, with the exception of the free space above the heads of passengers in the rear row of seats. It was reduced by 8.0 cm. In general, no discomfort was felt. The main advantage of the Liftback model is the increased space in the luggage compartment, despite the overall reduction in body length. With the seats folded, the volume is 440 liters, when unfolded - 760 liters.

Initially, the Lada Granta, a sedan, was positioned by manufacturers as a car for the family. Therefore, its practicality should imply the ability to transport an impressive number of goods. For these purposes, the developers have provided a one-piece design of the rear seats, which, if necessary, makes it possible to dismantle and remove it from the interior space.
These experiments did not stop the developers, and they moved further in this direction. They found that the sedan can accommodate up to 11 water containers, each of which has a volume of 20 liters, three rolls of woven mesh 1.5 m wide and 15 m long each. All this is contained in the trunk of the model.
The spaciousness of the LADA Granta is amazing, because it can transport 4 wheels, household items, for example, a washing machine and other necessary cargo. This became possible thanks to the geometric data that the trunk has and its impressive capacity. - dismantle the decorative upholstery;
- clean and degrease the surface intended for application;
- For the first layer, adhesive vibration isolating agent is suitable;
- cut out “cards” of the required size from its roll;
- use an industrial hair dryer to heat the surface of the sheet covered with bitumen;
- then we glue the so-called “vibra” onto the prepared body surface;
- then roll the pasted material over the surface with a hard roller.
The second soundproofing layer is applied overlapping. At this point, the process of installing the insulating coating can be considered complete. The luggage compartment lock is not without its shortcomings. It is unlocked manually, but many owners install an electric drive, which modernizes the car.
Despite all the shortcomings that are present in the LADA Granta, we can say with confidence that its consumer properties (practicality, versatility, impressive trunk volume, maintainability, etc.) sufficiently impress domestic car enthusiasts, as a result of which they are simply not able to find the strength to refuse the profitable purchase of this car.
What are the dimensions of the Granta inside?
As already noted, the internal dimensions of our LADA Granta are no less important. It is these indicators that have a genuine impact on ensuring comfort on long-distance cruises.
An irreplaceable advantage of the cabin is the ability of the seats to be amenable to many adjustments. The interior space is thought out with sufficient meticulousness, thanks to which long trips turn into fun and comfortable events.
If we set the value of the height from the junction of the seat cushion with the backrest to the nearest dimension, then it will be 910 millimeters for the front passengers, and passengers in the stern will have 80 millimeters more at their disposal, that is, 990 mm. The width of the seats is respectively 490 mm and 510 mm. The free legroom behind seated riders can reach a maximum of 335 mm. The height of the seats relative to the bottom for the front row is 285 mm, and for the second row – 340 mm. This parameter may vary due to the ability of the seats to be adjusted (front).
For those who are interested in the distance between the pedal assembly and the front end of the driver's seat, it can also be adjusted, thanks to regulation, from 335 mm to 560 mm.
Some future owners of practical LADA Granta will probably be interested in the steering dimensions. The steering wheel diameter is 375 mm. The remaining indicators are not particularly important here and note that they are not capable of having the slightest negative impact on ride comfort.

Granta is purchased both for work and as a family car. The decisive factor when choosing is not only technical characteristics, but also the trunk, which is important for Russian car enthusiasts. A domestic car is often used to transport all kinds of things, and it must be suitable for transporting not only small, but also large cargo. The user manual contains no information about the dimensions of the Lada Grant's trunk other than the volume, but car owners took their own measurements:

Based on reviews from car owners, up to 400 kg of payload can fit in the trunk. Another indicator of the dimensions of the luggage compartment is the ability to transport all 4 wheels.
In addition to the traditional four-door full-size body, the Lada Granta sedan is also available in a liftback modification. The peculiarity lies in the reduced body length and increased ground clearance. Unlike a traditional hatchback, the trunk lid is combined with a large rear window, but the main advantage is not this, but the volume of the luggage compartment.
The luggage compartment volume in the liftback is 440 liters in normal condition. If you fold the rear row of seats, the figure increases to 770 liters. According to this indicator, even the most popular Volkswagen Golf hatchback remains far behind. Due to the decision to make a single base for both the sedan and the liftback, the engineers were unable to catch up with the Golf in volume with the seats folded down. For the German hatchback this figure is 1200 liters.
As with the sedan, the manufacturer does not provide information on the dimensions of the luggage compartment other than the volume in liters. As it turned out in practice, the large trunk volume is not quite as large as shown in advertising videos. The rear row of seats can only be folded if the front seats are moved as far forward as possible. The rear seat head restraints will have to be removed.
If necessary, you can remove the rear shelf, for example, when transporting large cargo. This will not increase the volume, but nothing will interfere with the load. There are niches on the right and left for transporting various things, for example, travel bags or necessary tools. There are hooks above these recesses for hanging bags so they won't get in the way in the back seat.
For music lovers, the news about the difficulty of installing a subwoofer in the trunk will be unpleasant. It eats up a lot of useful space, and it will no longer be possible to transport bulky cargo. In addition, the subwoofer can simply be damaged. To lock the fifth door, you must press the button on the key. It does not open automatically, which means you have to lift the dirty lid with your hands.
The trunk handle is uncomfortable and looks more like a recess. When closing, the door does not make the sound of the lock clicking - due to inexperience, you will have to double-check whether the trunk is closed or not. The lid combined with glass is noticeably heavier than a regular hatchback fifth door, so you will have to make an effort to lift it.
Sometimes there is a malfunction of the lock - if the driver presses the open button from the passenger compartment, the lid then does not close. You have to press the button several times. All these shortcomings are minor, and given the price of the car, they can be neglected. But the opening turned out to be wide and cannot but please the owners. Engineers had to fit a large luggage compartment into a small wheelbase. They coped with this, although there were some minor flaws.
The main disadvantage of the Granta trunk in a sedan body is the opening mechanism. Spring torsion bars in the closed position of the lid interfere with the transportation of goods; when loading a large load, the lid will not be able to close. The second drawback is the imperfection of the lock, which often jams. There is no provision for automatic lifting of the lid when opening, as in the hatchback body. The lid is not sheathed with anything, it is bare metal with paint with all the attendant problems of lack of sound insulation.

The smallest trunk in a station wagon is 355 liters. It is difficult to talk about its volume if we are talking about capacity. This Grant is definitely not suitable for all motorists in our country. In the city, 355 liters may also not be enough, because when going on vacation it is almost impossible to fit all the luggage inside.
The size is slightly better with the sofa unfolded – 670 liters. Although there is more space for transportation, it will no longer be possible to take anyone except one passenger. It’s stupid to write a lot about such a small trunk. Every driver understands that you just need to enjoy the ride, and not carry out transportation.
The most obvious advantage of the Granta station wagon is the ability to purchase a model with 145 mm of ground clearance when loading: the trunk is as close as possible to the surface of the ground, which simplifies lifting weights. In this case, the engine will have 98 hp. s., which is far from the worst result.

The liftback is an average option in terms of trunk volume. Here you need to think carefully about what kind of transportation will be carried out by car in the future. Suburban residents will have to adapt to quite tangible restrictions of 760 liters. Although in the city there is still plenty of space in the back.
The station wagon is traditionally a city vehicle for commuting. A small family or single driver will be able to fulfill their current needs, but for other purposes they have to seek help from transport companies in their city.
Installing a trunk lock
Today Granta is available in three trim levels: “Standard”, “Norma” and “Lux”. Unlike the latter two, the standard version is not equipped with an electric trunk and hood lock. There are no buttons in the cabin, but the manufacturer has prepared everything necessary for installing the electric drive and has equipped the key fob with a button to open the trunk.
By pressing this button and holding it for more than two seconds, you can hear the lock motor relay clicking. The only thing missing is the mechanism itself, which can be purchased at any auto store. The installation process is not complicated and can be done independently. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Remove the inner lining of the trunk by disconnecting the 7 pistons and unscrewing the bolts securing the handle.
- After this you can see the lock mechanism. To understand the principle of its operation in different positions, you should insert a key into the hole and turn it in different directions. In the closed position, the pusher should work idle; in the open position, press on the rod, which pulls back the lock tongue, opening the trunk).
- Having understood the positions of the lock, it is not difficult to guess that it is enough to connect the actuator rod to the pusher.
- Remove the washer and pusher. You will need a small thin metal plate into which the pusher and actuator rod will be installed. You need to make two holes in the plate. One is for the pusher protrusion (located in the center), the second is for the activator rod (on the edge in the lower left part). You will need to select a metal washer for the protrusion of the pusher.
- Now you can assemble the mechanism; a plate is put on the pusher using the central hole. A washer and a locking ring are used for fixation. The actuator is fixed in the place provided by the manufacturer. Using rods, the plate is connected to the activator through the hole.
At the final stage, it remains to check the functionality of the mechanism and, if necessary, adjust the “closed” and “open” positions.
