  5. To clearly and quickly cut through the foam rubber from the door card side, pierce the center of the future hole with an awl and cut through the fabric side.
  6. Trim the backing, leaving up to 10 mm allowance around the perimeter of the card.

The panel can be sheathed with a solid piece or a sewn piece of the selected material. If the sheathing consists of two or more pieces, you must ensure that the holes are not cut along the machine stitch line. It is necessary to trim the pattern, leaving an allowance around the perimeter of up to 5 cm. Vinyl leather and Alcantara are significantly deformed when shrinking.   1. Place the selected material face down on a table or any flat surface.
  2. Cover the card with foam side down.

  5. Attach the material on the other two sides in the same way.
  6. Align any possible folds and secure them at the corners of the panel.

  8. Trim the material around the perimeter, leaving up to 1 cm near each staple.
  9. Make holes on the back side with an awl, cut out an entrance for handles, armrest, speakers.

Materials for upholstery

When choosing fabric, you need to take into account quality, wear resistance, price, and color. The fibrous structure should stretch, this will allow the fabric to be securely fixed to the panel. Possible varieties:

  1. Genuine Leather. It looks beautiful, but is expensive. Creates sound insulation and withstands humid and harsh climates. The ease of care is dictated by the fact that the fabric does not absorb dirt and does not deteriorate when using aggressive detergents.
  2. Eco-leather or substitute. It has high wear resistance and is durable. The characteristics are identical to the natural base, only the substitute does not tolerate the effects of chemical detergents. With improper care, microcracks appear, which are then filled with dirt.
  3. Alcantra. Consists of thin and viscous fibers. The material has a high rate of moisture rejection, so it does not shrink. After the Alcantura is stretched on the panel, it will take the shape of the structure and will not sag over time. There is only one minus - the low level of sound insulation.
  4. Vinyl and leatherette. They provide strength and durability, and they are also very convenient for reupholstering. The material transmits sound well, so you will need to install an additional layer of insulation.
  5. Carpet. This is an artificial automotive fabric. This lining will last for many years. It withstands temperature changes, repels dirt, cleans quickly, and blocks the growth of fungus.

Some car enthusiasts are experimenting and upholstering door panels with velvet and even faux fur. Such fabric will partially create sound insulation, but will cause difficulties during cleaning.

  • With a little effort, you need to pull the rod until it comes off the cylinder, after which the handle will easily detach from the door and is ready for replacement.
  • Installing a new handle is carried out in the reverse order. The main thing is to carry out all work carefully and not damage the door glass.
  • Most often, the lock cylinder is the first to fail; it is reusable and constantly in use. To replace it you will need a flat screwdriver and a needle (or thin wire)

Eliminating squeaks

Creaking doors or clips can be easily eliminated if you follow the tips below:

  • A thin strip of anti-creaking agent is glued along the contour of the back side of the casing. In this way, you can eliminate the creaking caused by the metal surface of the door;
  • To eliminate the squeaking noise produced by the clips, glue anti-creak around the holes;
  • The anti-creak can also be glued to the pad intended for fixing the clip. In this case, the clips will not dangle;

    Knock out the limiter fastening pin 3 (Figure 1) and disconnect the limiter from the car body pillar.

    While holding the door in the open position, use an impact screwdriver to remove 2 screws 1 securing hinges 4 of the door to the body pillar.

    The door installation must be done in reverse order. Before final tightening the hinge screws, adjust the gaps between the door and the car body.

    To remove the door trim, you must first remove the decorative plug 2 from the handle attached to the armrest. Under the plug there is a screw that needs to be removed. After this we dismantle the handle.

    We remove the decorative rosette 1 from the inner door opening handle 3. To do this, you need to pry it off the trim with a screwdriver and remove it from the handle.

    Now you need to remove the door lock button 3. To do this, use a sharp knife at point 2 to pry the button cover 1 and pull it out.

    The window lifter handle consists of 3 parts. 1 - the window lifter handle itself, 2 - the trim of the window lifter handle, 3 - the socket. In order to disassemble and remove the handle, it is necessary to slightly recess the socket 3 under the trim 2 into the door trim and move the trim along the handle until it exits the annular recess on the axis. The direction is indicated in the figure by an arrow. Remove the window handle 1 and the socket from the axle.

    In my case, it was still necessary to remove the screws securing the door trim, which were installed by the previous owner. In the general case, it is necessary, overcoming the resistance of the spring plastic holders, to remove the door trim. The location of the plastic holders on the door trim is shown in the figure below.

    Step-by-step instruction

    So, below is a step-by-step algorithm for performing the operation. It won’t take much time and everything will go well if you follow these instructions clearly, without doing anything on your own.

    Removing the upholstery

    To easily remove the upholstery from the door of a VAZ 2107 and thereby prepare the surfaces for gluing with soundproofing material, do the following:

    • We take a shaped screwdriver and unscrew the self-tapping screw, which we find in the upper part of the lining;
    • Then unscrew the screws at the bottom (there are 3 of them);
    • Remove the cover;
    • Now you need to use a screwdriver to press the lock of the window lifter handle, pull it out and remove the handle;
    • Again, use a screwdriver to remove the plug for the armrest handle, then remove the screws that hold it in place;

    Features of dismantling

    Before work on reinstalling the door trim, you need to prepare a tool. You will need:

    1. Plywood sheet up to 4 mm.
    2. Door latches and clips are sold as a set, matching the interior color.
    3. Foam rubber, sheet up to 10-15 mm thick.
    4. Material.
    5. Glue.

    To cover doors 2107, you can use an old part; if the factory plywood is not deformed, this will make the work easier.

    Dismantling the panel proceeds in steps:

    1. Pull out the bracket securing the window regulator.
    2. Remove the window lifter handle. If the mechanics were reinstalled on the power window, remove the clamp covering the standard hole.
    3. Remove the plugs on the door handle, unscrew the armrest bolts, and remove the element.
    4. Remove the trim panel from the door handle.
    5. Remove speakers and adjacent electrical appliances, if installed.
    6. Carefully pull the door card towards you and remove the panel.

    Dismantling takes up to 10 minutes, it is important to unscrew the bolts sequentially; if the interior has been modernized, and the door has additional clips along the edge of the card, remove them first.

    Old VAZ 2107 door cards are removed as follows:

    1. remove the window handle by pulling out the fixing bracket;
    2. Unscrew the bolts under the plugs and remove the door handle (armrest);

    3. remove the trim from the door opening handle;
    4. remove the speaker (if installed);
    5. remove the door card by pulling it towards you.

    general information

    Before you start soundproofing doors, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the general rules:

    • The first layer must be vibroplast.

    Note. The choice of vibration-proofing material depends primarily on the following. Doors, as you know, are not as loaded with various vibrations as the engine compartment or the bottom of the car. For this reason, the front speaker is often placed not forward or on the floor, but on the door. But the resonant sounds of metal remain, and without proper sound insulation, this is impossible. In a word, if the doors will not be used as a place for speakers, then vibration isolation is selected in the usual version; if used, in a special kit.

    • In any case, Technoplast M1 or M2 must be applied to the inside of the door, the one on the street side. The entire surface of the door is 100 percent covered with this material.

    Attention. During the gluing process, we must not forget about the ventilation and drainage holes, which must be left open.

    • Pasting the side of the door closest to the interior depends on the specific material chosen.

    Sound insulation of doors 2107 VAZ

    Note. As mentioned above, if acoustics are not installed or the speakers are small, it is enough to vibration damp the flat areas with Techno Bomb elast or Technobit MP elast. If powerful speakers are installed, then pasting is carried out on the entire surface of the door, using the same materials, including closing the technological holes.

    • Before carrying out work, it is necessary to check the functionality of all components of the lock and window regulators. If something doesn’t work right, then the time has come to replace and fix everything, add lubricant, tighten fasteners, etc.

    Note. Closing the technological holes in this part of the door has a special purpose. The door turns into a kind of closed box, which has a very good effect on the acoustics and its sound in the car interior.

    • On top of Technobit there is a layer of Shumka;
    • Carrying out sound insulation (see Sound insulation of a car interior on your own) is also divided into stages: first, the door is covered with 7 mm Technoplast. If you intend to install powerful speakers, stick a 5-10 mm Spectrum circle on the surface of the door that is closer to the street, preferably 30-50 percent larger than the holes for the speakers. In this case, greater emphasis is placed on absorbing reflected waves from the speaker system so that they do not in any way affect the speaker driver. As for the technology of pasting soundproofing material, it is installed in a single sheet.

    Note. The interesting thing about door trim is that it can be used as an acoustic shield. To achieve this, pieces of Technoplast M1 are glued to the back side, but if the skin of the VAZ 2107 consists of several pieces, then the material is glued at the joints and at the joints.
