The cargo capabilities of the VAZ 2171 station wagons are enormous.

The Priora sedan (VAZ 2170) and hatchback (VAZ 2172) are not equipped with roof rails from the factory, but you can install them yourself. There are two ways to place a roof rack on a Priora:

install roof rails (along the roof), as on a station wagon;
install arches across the roof.

1. If models for the VAZ 2170, 2172 are not on sale, consider the roof rails from the VAZ 2110, 2112 (the roof and doors of the 10 are the same as the Priora). Accordingly, the installation is performed in the same way. First, the ceiling lining is removed, after which we check the presence of roof reinforcements. If the holes for attaching the rails do not fit into them, you will have to modify them. To strengthen the roof, we glue a sheet of metal (2 mm thick and 80x100 mm in size) with Moment epoxy glue. Don't forget to use rubber gaskets to avoid damaging the paintwork.

For fans of Priora tuning, there are Priora decorative roof rails, which are not suitable for carrying cargo. These accessories are simply glued to the roof using 2-sided tape.

2. Arches on the roof. Unlike roof rails, they are the most common and are much easier to find on sale. The disadvantage of this design over the first is that they are noisier at speed.

The basket, which is designed to hold the spare tire suspended, has a special hook. It is secured with a bolt. First, we unscrew the specified fastener a small number of turns. We use a size 17 head with a suitable extension.
Next, we proceed to removing the handle of the basket itself from the specified hook.
Now we need to lower the basket to a certain angle. Here you need to manually hold the spare wheel.
Having achieved this, remove the spare tire and set it aside.
We remove the basket itself from the brackets present on the body elements of the bottom.
When the holding basket is dismantled, you can begin to remove the lock. This is not always required, but you should not lose sight of this point. Here we use a Torx T40 type wrench.

Install the cart.

Before installing the lock body, we install an O-ring, which acts as a gasket between the body element of the Lada Largus and the product considered here.
We fasten the body itself using the indicated two bolts.
We install the hook in its original place and screw in the bolt (not completely) that secures it.
We place the basket levers into the corresponding brackets located on the body.
Now you can stow the spare tire.
We raise the basket itself to the required level, after which we secure the handle in the indicated hook.
Tighten the hook bolt with full torque.

The removal operation should be carried out with sufficient frequency, which will allow you to easily remove the spare tire at the right time in road conditions.

Types of trunks on Priora

You can no longer attach a design to a modern car that was suitable for VAZ cars of previous models. But as they say, the need for invention is cunning. And Russian masters finally resolved this issue. There are two types of mounting additional cargo modules on the Priora roof.

Longitudinal fastening.
Cross trunk.

Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, each needs to be considered separately.

Luggage rack on longitudinal arches

When considering this method of installing an additional cargo module, one important factor must be taken into account: longitudinal arches on the roof can also be installed as truly functional devices designed to transport the necessary cargo; and simply restyled decorations that are not properly attached to the roof of the car. That is, they can also be divided into:

decorative;
functional.

Decorative restyled arches. Sometimes, many car enthusiasts install this element simply as a decoration for the top of the car. In this case, reliable fastening to the Priora body does not play a decisive role. Often these elements are simply installed with a good sealant, or even with a special type of double-sided adhesive tape. This, one might say, is just external tuning, and it is not worth considering it in detail here.

Functional trunk arches, longitudinal. But if you need to transport something on these arches, install a full-fledged roof rack on them, the fastening must be fundamentally different. It’s good if there are initially provided technological holes with stiffening ribs on the roof. Then no problem. Just buy suitable arcs and install. But if not, then everything is more complicated.

If the Priora initially does not have special holes for attaching the trunk, you will have to make them yourself. To do this, you need to remove the inner ceiling trim. This comes first. Make precise markings on the outside so that the holes on at least one side touch the stiffening ribs. Or install a specially cut strip of metal from the inside, at least 2 mm thick. Be sure to place the included rubber pads under the trunk arches.

In general, of course, it is better to do this work at the service. Yes, it will be more reliable.

The general advantage of longitudinal restyled arches is good aerodynamics. The disadvantage is durability. It is lower than that of the transverse ones. And accordingly the carrying capacity is lower.

Transverse mounting of the roof rack "Priora"

This type of fastening is most common among business car owners, for whom their Priora is a real workhorse. Cross racks are attached to the edges of the body on any car. Their installation, as well as dismantling, takes literally a few minutes. Considering that the roof width of all Priors is the same, the body type does not matter. You can install either two or three transverse arcs. With the help of bolts they are securely attached to the roof of the Priora.

Longitudinal arcs

They come in 2 types.

Used as a decorative decoration. Not intended for transportation of goods. They are attached with glue, sealant, and adhesive double-sided tape.

Functional

Performs the function of a trunk. To install, you need to follow the following algorithm:

Place the car level, select a straight surface. Open the front and rear doors on either side. Remove the seal. Underneath there are special holes provided by the manufacturer. There is tape pasted on top. There is no need to remove it. It is worth piercing or cutting in the location of the holes. Clean the location of the crossbars with a rag from dust and dirt. Take out the gaskets that are included in the longitudinal arch kit. Place it in the mounting location and align it with the holes. Place the arc so that its brackets sit on the spacers between them and the surface of the body. Secure with bolts from the kit. Use three for each side, without twisting all the way. Press the arc firmly against the surface of the body, tighten the central bolt until it stops. Then two side ones. The front and rear brackets are covered with a border in such a way as to hide them. We remove the railing. Protectors are inserted into the resulting openings, limited by a border, by gluing them to the surface of the body with the arrows facing forward. Remove border.
