- Three new gaskets are put on the studs - adjusting (the thickest), heat-insulating and sealing. The gaskets must match the brand of fuel pump.
- A new fuel pump is installed and secured with two nuts. In order not to create a lot of pressure on the flange, the nuts are tightened alternately.
- Two fuel supply hoses are connected.
- The engine is started and the functionality of the pump is checked.

Removing and installing the fuel pump.

Install a new gasket before making adjustments.
Install the pusher into the heat-insulating spacer. As shown in the image, install the spacer assembly with the pusher on the studs. Place an adjusting shim 0.70-0.80 mm thick onto the pump mounting studs.
Press the gaskets installed on the studs and the heat-insulating spacer tightly to the cylinder block. Rotate the crankshaft and install the pusher so that it protrudes minimally.
The fuel pump is adjusted based on the diagram and indicators described below. As shown in the image, use rulers to set the protrusion length of the pusher. The length of the protrusion of the pusher is marked with the letter A. If dimension A is less than 0.8 mm, replace the adjusting shim with a thickness of 0.70-0.80 mm with another one with a thickness of 0.27-0.33 mm. If dimension A exceeds 1.3mm, replace the adjusting shim with a size of 0.70-0.80mm with another shim of increased thickness 1.10-1.30mm. Install the pump in the reverse order of removal.

10. To avoid damaging the safety diaphragm, which over time sticks to the body and gasket, when removing and disassembling the pump, separate it with a thin knife or flat probe.
11. Having cleaned the filter and replaced the torn diaphragms, we assemble the pump in the reverse order of disassembly.
12. Install the strainer into the pump housing so that its hole is located above the valve. The flange of the filter hole should fit into the valve hole.
13. After assembling the pump, we check its functionality. We lower the pump inlet fitting into a container of gasoline and press the manual pumping lever several times. In this case, a pulsating stream of fuel should appear from the outlet fitting. This means that the pump diaphragms are intact.
14. Again, lower the pump with the inlet pipe into gasoline and, plugging the outlet fitting with your finger, use the manual pumping lever to create pressure in the internal cavity of the pump. After 10-15 seconds, releasing your finger, check the presence of residual pressure in the pump - gasoline should come out in a stream. If it is not observed, check the tightness of the connections of the body parts and valves. If tightening the screws fails to restore the tightness, it is better to replace the pump with a new one.
