Installing an injector in a VAZ 21099 car
Reliable operation of the fuel system of the VAZ 21099 depends on the injector. Its clogging can lead to large excess fuel consumption, unstable idling and a decrease in engine power, and the car jerking during acceleration. Many gas stations sell low quality fuel that contains dirt, benzene, water, sulfur and olefin. This leads to the accumulation of tarry deposits in the fuel system, rail, and on the surfaces of the injector. This article discusses how to flush the injector on a VAZ 21099 car yourself.
BOSCH injectors
Their use depends on the engine size and the number of valves. There is no particular variety in VAZ-2114 engines, so there are only the following options:
- Nozzle BOSCH 0280 158 022. The nozzle is marked black, has a productivity of 1.9644 mg/sec, operates under a standard pressure of 3.8 atmospheres. Installed on a 1600 cc engine with 16 valves. Works with January 7.2 controller.
BOSCH nozzle: productivity 1.9644 mg/sec
- Nozzle BOSCH 0280 158 017. The nozzle is also marked black, has a thin spray and a productivity of 1.922 mg/sec. The standard pressure is identical to the previous one - 3.8 atm, can be installed on a 1.6 liter 8-valve engine. Works with January 7.2 controller.
- Injector BOSCH 0280 158 996. Used until 2006, can be replaced with BOSCH 0280 150 110. Both injectors are designed for use in an 8-valve 1.5-liter engine. The only difference is in performance - the 996 has a performance of 1.653 mg/sec, the new 110 operates with a performance of 1.7 mg/sec, which has virtually no effect on engine performance.
The new injector may have a thicker O-ring and, accordingly, a longer nozzle. The injectors are completely interchangeable. These injectors can only work with the January 5.1 controller.
In addition, you need to know which engine control controller is installed on the car, since January 5.1 and January 7.2 may require injectors of different capacities.
Spray torch
A flame is a form of dosed portion of fuel that is injected into the combustion chamber. The best injectors are able to distribute the fuel as evenly as possible inside the cylinder. If this does not happen and the fuel turns out to be too liquid, then it settles in the chamber. This impairs engine performance and leads to accelerated wear. The main characteristics of the torch include:
- dispersion, indicating the degree of atomization;
- shape, usually resembling a cone;
- the amount of fuel supplied per unit time.
If there are two holes in the torch nozzle, there will also be two. With a good selection of the injection system, all elements operate at optimal performance. The engine consumes the minimum possible amount of fuel to provide the required dynamic characteristics.
Siemens Deka injectors
There is no certainty with Siemens injectors, since the plant can install injectors of different markings on the same engine. However, there is a clear difference between the injectors for eight-valve and 16-valve engines.
In the first case, the nozzle is single-flame, in the second - double-flame, that is, it sprays fuel onto each of the intake valves separately.
They are marked as VAZ20734 (orange markings) and 20735 (blue markings). On eight-valve engines, a Siemens 6393 nozzle with a thick torch can be used. Its productivity is 1.662 mg/sec, and its operating pressure is 3 atm. Each of these injectors can be installed on a VAZ-2114 engine.
Choosing garage technicians: a simple and safe way
Using a milling cutter, grind the saddle all the way through one edge. The seat will weaken, lose tension and jump out of the seating hole on its own, without even having to sharpen it through, reaching the seating plane, when a little less than 0.5 mm of tension remains, the tension is no longer enough to hold on. By opening the ring, the saddle will no longer be able to resist.
A drill cutter is sold in any hardware store and costs no more than a drill, which is why this method is so affordable.
Now that the saddle is out, we need to think about what we are going to put in there.
Valve seat blank
For all popular engines, valve seat blanks are offered, both standard sizes and repair ones, with an increased outer diameter. For rare engines, blanks must be ordered or made to order.
Such blanks are quite cheap; if you don’t find one for a certain motor, you can choose the size from the available items. But don’t forget that companies that produce engine parts (Kolbenschmidt), in particular valves, also produce seats of the same sizes, so ask in stores in your city. After installation, the seat will need to be processed - chamfered for the valve.
When to change: self-diagnosis
The fuel system of an injection engine has a fairly extensive architecture and faults can only be identified after an accurate diagnosis of each of the system elements. For example, a drop in engine power may be the result of either a malfunction of the injectors, insufficient performance of the fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter.
In addition, jerks and dips, unstable idle and difficult starting, increased consumption, can occur when the injector is simply clogged.
You can check the injectors themselves directly on the engine without removing them. To do this, just start the engine and remove the wires from the connector one by one. If the stability of the engine changes at the same time, the engine starts to oscillate, then the injector is in order. If, when removing the wires from the connector, the stability of the motor does not change, the injector needs to be cleaned or replaced.
How to check for faults
The car owner can independently check the performance of the injectors on his car. The procedure is quite simple and does not require special training or expensive equipment. In garage conditions, diagnostics can be performed with a set of open-end wrenches, screwdrivers and a tester with a resistance measurement mode.
Reasons indicating problems
Diagnostics must be performed not after any period of operation or mileage has expired, but in the presence of external manifestations of injector failures. In cases where other vehicle systems are operating normally, the following indicators indicate problems with the injection solenoid valves:
- at idle there is instability in engine speed;
- starting the engine is difficult - the engine may stall;
- when overclocking it is impossible to achieve the same dynamics;
- The amount of fuel consumed has noticeably increased.
Diagnostic procedure
- Open the hood.
- Unclip the plastic clips that secure the valve's power cable. Remove the connector.
- Switch the tester to resistance measurement mode and take measurements of the windings of each of the injectors in turn. That is, you need to apply one contact of the tester to each of the five terminals, and the second one to the fifth wire for power.
- Optimal resistance values in all cases should be in the range of 11–15 ohms. If at least one pin shows deviations, it will be necessary to change the nozzle.
Replacing injectors (full technology)
Before replacing injectors on a VAZ-2114 of any generation, it is necessary to relieve the pressure in the power system.
To do this, remove the rear seat cushion, open the hatch and remove the contact block from the fuel pump. Now it is de-energized and will not build up pressure.
We start the engine and wait a few minutes until all the fuel in the system is used up. The pressure has been relieved, now you can safely remove the old injectors and replace them with new ones. We proceed according to the following algorithm:
- We de-energize the car by removing the negative terminal from the battery.
Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery
- Remove the air filter and hose from the pressure regulator in the power system.
Remove the hose from the pressure regulator
- We press the plastic latch and remove the connector from the throttle position sensor.
Disconnect the electrical connector of the throttle position sensor
- In the same way, remove the connector from the idle air regulator.
Disconnect the connector from the idle air regulator
- Disconnect the connector block from the injector wiring harness.
Disconnect the connector block from the injector wires
- Unscrew the fuel rail mounting bolts.
Unscrew the fuel rail mounting bolts
- We move the fuel rail so that each of the injectors comes out of their seat.
We dismantle the fuel rail with injectors
- We release the spring clip and remove the wires from each injector.
Squeeze the spring clip and disconnect the electrical connector of the injector.
- We remove the injector from the ramp and replace it with a new one.
Rock the injector and remove it from the fuel rail.
Installation of injectors is carried out in the reverse order. Before installation, it is advisable to check the integrity of the O-rings; if they have lost their elasticity, it is better to replace them with new ones. The injectors are installed and ready for further use. Good luck to everyone!
Cleaning
There are two ways to clean fuel nozzles, each of which has its own nuances. Choose for yourself which one you like best or is more affordable, taking into account the available funds.

Easy way to clean
Both operations take approximately 2-3 hours, but cost several hundred rubles. This is ten times cheaper than replacement and about the same amount more affordable than service stations.
After cleaning the injectors, check their operation. If this does not work, you will have to change it.
It is not uncommon to remove injectors on a fuel-injected VAZ 2109 car. You can contact a car service center, where everything will be done at your expense, or you can do the work yourself, gaining invaluable experience and saving an impressive part of your own budget. The choice is yours.
You cannot start a conversation about instructions for removing injectors without first talking about the location of the object you are looking for.
The injectors of VAZ 2109 cars are located on the fuel rail. There are 4 of them in total. This is justified by the fact that any nozzle sprays fuel onto one separate cylinder. Since the nine has four cylinders, we conclude that the number of injectors is logical.
Installing a new saddle
The valve seat must be installed correctly with nitrogen; all other methods are not as reliable. In normal condition at room temperature, the diameter of the seat is greater than the diameter of the hole in the head, so after installation some interference is obtained. To fit the saddle, it must be reduced in size, this is what nitrogen is needed for.
Liquid nitrogen retains a very low temperature. While cooling in nitrogen, the valve contracts in diameter, and when cooled it can freely fit into the mounting hole of the head. At the same time, to enlarge the mounting hole in the head, the head can be heated, then the hole will expand and the gap will increase. If you heat the head, then you don’t need to cool the saddle so much, it will be enough to just put it in the freezer and the temperature difference will be enough.
It is impossible to install the saddle without preliminary heat treatment; the required tension will not be achieved and the saddle will fall out during operation.
When installing, you need to hammer the saddle so that it falls into place, you don’t need to hit it hard, light blows are enough.
