A recent novelty of the domestic automobile industry - Lada Vesta - has become widespread among car enthusiasts. Despite the fact that the car has been in production for only a few years, owners are gradually beginning to encounter minor problems and periodic maintenance, which includes replacing spark plugs on Lada Vesta cars. This need is not a shortcoming of the machine or a serious breakdown; timely replacement of small spare parts will help in the future to avoid major repairs of the main moving parts.
What kind of spark plugs are installed on Lada Vesta from the factory?
The type of igniters differs in size, depending on the number of valves. In an 8-valve engine the skirt is short, in a 16-valve engine it is long. The standard configuration is from a domestic manufacturer, but nothing prevents the owner from installing imported analogues.
Which spark plugs to choose for Lada Vesta: factory opinion
AvtoVAZ specialists recommend the manufacturer NGK BCPR6ES for both 8-valve and 16-valve engines.

Incorrect operation due to faulty ignition coil
Let's move on to the main reasons that cause malfunctions in the car's ignition system.
A common cause of IKZ failure is the influence of external factors; the use of counterfeit spare parts cannot be ruled out. This factor can spoil the function of the ignition system. In cold weather, deterioration in the performance of the ignition system is also noticed.
The main problems include:
- systematic operation of the vehicle in elevated temperature conditions;
- wear of the insulating materials inside the plastic case, as a result of which the current conductivity decreases;
- short circuit of conductors;
- transformer burnout due to low voltage of the on-board network (below 11.0 V);
- mechanical damage to conductor products: breakage, peeling, deformation;
- excessive vibration of the power unit;
- breakage of conductors inside the circuit.
Standard reel - article number and price
Let's look at the articles, the cost of the IKZ, you can navigate by price. Lately, counterfeit parts have become common. By buying such a fake, you reduce its use by half. In order for the car to work well, the choice of parts should be approached with full responsibility.
- 2112-3705010-12 JSC "SOATE", Stary Oskol - 1165 rubles.
- IKZ – 1000 rub.
- 2112-3705010-11 “ITELMA”, Moscow – 1215 rubles.
- 2112-3705010-13 “NORTH”, Novosibirsk – 1515 rubles.
As you can see, ignition coils are affordable and you can purchase them without significant damage to your wallet. How to distinguish a fake from a factory IKZ:
- The first distinguishing feature is that the original reel has a body made of plastic, while the fake one is made of metal.
- The fake part lacks special stamps and a lightning bolt symbol, which indicates high voltage. If you look closely at the contacts of a fake IKZ, you will notice that they are thicker and round. The factory number is marked with an oval on the original part.

Features and purpose of spark plugs
Without the spark produced by the igniter, the engine will not start and the combustible mixture will not ignite.
The average life of an original spark plug is 40,000 km or three years, whichever comes first.
The following models are distinguished: conventional, iridium, one-, two-, three-, four-electrode. Iridium ones are 10–15% more expensive than all other types.
The greater the number of electrodes, the greater the likelihood of rapid combustion of the mixture. For domestic cars this is not so important: one electrode is enough.
↑ Signs of wear
It is usually recommended to replace the spark plugs after the vehicle has traveled a certain number of kilometers. It is not advisable to allow the wear of these elements to affect the operation of the engine and the entire ignition system.
But, if the igniters were not replaced in time, or the new ones turned out to be defective, then obvious signs of their malfunction will, first of all, affect the operation of the engine. The first sign is that the engine has become difficult to start and does not pull.
It may also trip or jerk and lose power. Sometimes wear of the ignition elements provokes increased gasoline consumption, as well as poor performance and overheating of the catalyst.
If traces of oil are found on the spark plugs themselves or the threads, this is a clear sign that the reflector caps also need to be replaced.
What is the difference between spark plugs for 8- and 16-valve engines?
By and large, there are no differences, except for the size of the key that needs to be used to unscrew the case.
Motor type | Serial number/manufacturer |
8-valve engine Lada Vesta 1.6 | А17ДВРМ, Beru, Champion, NGK, Denso, Brisk, Bosch |
16 valve | AU17DVRM, Brisk, Bosch, Denso, BCPR6ES – NGK |
Renault-Nissan HR16DE/H4M | LZKAR7D – NGK |
If you find oil in the spark plug wells
The Lada Vesta has an unpleasant flaw.
Insufficiently reliable sealing of the engine between the valve cover and the cylinder head. Because of this, oil gets into the spark plug wells. The problem can be fixed at the dealer under warranty - you just need to re-glue the camshafts and reliably seal the engine. Or contact a service station. The problem occurs on cars where the manufacturer does not provide gaskets in the classical sense. An anaerobic sealant is used, which seals the cylinder head, camshaft bed and valve cover together.
In this case, given the inconsistent build quality of AvtoVAZ, there is a problem with the seal of the planes connecting in the upper part of the cylinder head. And since the oil pressure in the cylinder head is quite high (about 3-4 bar), the oil begins to flow into the spark plug wells
Replacing spark plugs on a Lada Vesta with your own hands
Necessary tools, materials
- rags;
- additional lighting (optional);
- a set of new igniters;
- torque wrench;
- hex key for “17”, “14”.
Work progress
- We wait until the engine cools down. It is prohibited to carry out work when the engine is hot.
- Open the hood and remove the power terminals from the battery.
- We remove the plastic decorative trim.
- Disconnect the coil from the harness connector.
- Turn the screw securing the coil.
- We remove the coil from the well.
- Unscrew the igniter.
- We insert a new igniter. Tightening torque 25–30 N.m.
- Screw the coil and put on the block with wires.
In a Lada Vesta car with 8-cl. engine, the replacement process is similar, with the exception of the location of the igniter. The spark plugs are installed on the surface of the cylinder head cover.
Replacing spark plugs on a Lada Vesta with your own hands is completed.
↑ Where to buy
You can purchase spark plugs at a regular auto parts store. The simplest copper parts are usually in stock, and you don’t have to wait for them to be ordered and delivered. If the chosen model is not available at the moment or there is no store nearby, then it will not be difficult to order candles of the chosen brand and manufacturer through the online store.
In this case, you can pick them up from the point of issue yourself or pay for delivery by courier. Typically, prices when ordering online are lower than in the same retail store.

Regular or iridium?
AvtoVAZ equips Vesta with Brisk super DR15YC-1 spark plugs. However, there are many offers on the market, and therefore the issue of choice should be looked into separately. And it is the type of product that raises the most questions.
Spark plugs for Lada Vesta can be one of 2 types:
- Regular;
- Iridium.
With standard products everything is generally clear. Therefore, the greatest interest concerns iridium ones. Many have heard that they are significantly better, but not everyone is ready to overpay when purchasing - after all, one iridium spark plug costs 2-3 times more than a set of regular 4 units!
In general, as tests show, including those of the authoritative publication Za Rulem, iridium spark plugs for Vesta are much better. They have a noticeably longer service life, which allows them to be replaced 2-3 times less often and save on the work of craftsmen; engine fuel consumption when they wear out increases much more slowly than when using conventional ones. The same applies to toxicity.
