Replacing spark plugs for Lada Largus 16 and 8 valves. Articles, photos, videos

LADA Largus has been produced since 2012. The car was equipped only with gasoline engines. Their line is not very wide, represented only by a volume of 1.6 liters, and these are mainly French engines from Renault - K4M (16-valve) and K7M (8 valves). Until 2015, the Lada Largus was also equipped with the Russian 8-valve power unit VAZ-11189.

Spark plugs for Largus do not have a wide variety, and differ depending on the engine modification. There are also differences in article numbers depending on the manufacturer. All original spark plugs are supplied in branded boxes from Renault. The main manufacturers are EYQUEM (France) and Engels Plant (Russia).

Spark plugs Lada Largus for 8- and 16-valve engines

Spark plugs for Largus 1.6 differ from each other only depending on how many valves the engine has. On cars with 8-valve engines (K7M, VAZ-11189), the manufacturer installs 7700500168 - where they are used, what sizes”>spark plugs 7700500168. They have a regular nickel central electrode, and two side electrodes. The same candles can be found directly from the manufacturer EYQUEM under the article number RFC58LZ2E. An analogue from a Russian manufacturer has article number 224013682R. These models are no different from each other and are interchangeable.

On Largus with a 16-valve K4M engine, spark plugs are installed under article number 7700500155. Unlike the previous spare part, these spark plugs have one side electrode, but they are nickel. The French manufacturer EYQUEM has the article number RFN58LZ. The Russian analogue has article number 224018651R.

On a Largus with a 16-valve engine, you can also install spark plugs with 2 side electrodes from an 8-valve engine, but not vice versa. On 8-valve valves, only 2-pin ones are installed. As drivers note, spark plugs with 2 side electrodes slightly improve engine performance by reducing vibration.

Since the manufacturer installs conventional nickel spark plugs on their cars, which have a short service life, Largus owners often resort to installing more expensive iridium spark plugs. Their service life is often 3-4 times longer than nickel ones, and in addition they also slightly improve the dynamic performance of the engine. For 8 valve Lada Largus, the most popular model is Denso IW20 at a price of 670 rubles/piece. And for 16-valve cars it will be Denso IK20 RUB 520/piece.

When to change spark plugs on Lada Largus?

According to the LADA Largus maintenance regulations, spark plugs are changed every 30 thousand km. But, as most drivers note, the actual service life of original spark plugs often approaches the 50 thousand km mark. If iridium spark plugs are installed, they usually last up to 100 - 120 thousand km.

Lada Largus spark plugs are a very important element of the ignition system of a domestic station wagon. Not only reliable engine starting in the cold season, but also stable engine operation, fuel consumption, dynamics and many other factors depend on timely replacement and correct selection of spark plugs.

As you know, over the years Largus has been equipped with K7M, K4M, 11189 and 21129 engines. Let's figure out what spark plugs are installed on these engines and how to change them. Let's start with the most modern, in my opinion, engine 21129 1.6 liter 16-valve.

Replacing spark plugs on Largus - 8 valve engine

Greetings to all beginning largus breeders who have visited my blog at this hour.
Today a short note on how to replace spark plugs on Largus - K7M engine, 8 valves. What procedure must be followed and what tools will be needed for this.

In general, any car enthusiast, even a beginner, can replace spark plugs independently. Now on a new engine it is recommended to do this every 30 thousand. I try to do it every 15 thousand, according to the old regulations.

Another important point: if the period for scheduled replacement is approaching and it should be in winter, then it is better to change the spark plugs. This will be the key to reliable engine starting in cold weather. Especially when the temperature drops below -25 degrees. It is not very pleasant to make a replacement in such conditions.

This time it turned out that I changed the spark plugs at 65 thousand, and the previous replacement was at 45 thousand. That is, I drove 20 thousand with them.

How to change on an 8 valve

We will need a 16mm spark plug wrench and a wrench. The wrench is a long tubular one, since the spark plug wells are deep and cannot be reached with a regular socket head. Length 27 cm. I use this one:

Costs about 150 rubles. Inside the key there is a rubber bushing with which the spark plug is fixed and removed from the spark plug well.

Before replacing, it is advisable to clean these spark plug wells. Quite a lot of sand and dirt accumulates in them. For example, I use a compressor at one of the gas stations. It’s better to use the one with a compressor with a gun, it’s more convenient. We remove the wires from the spark plugs one by one and blow them through. It is important not to look at the well at the beginning of purging, since dirt flying out of it can get into your eyes.

Now that you've finished blowing out the wells, you can also blow out the air filter. Then we move on to replacing the spark plugs.

We change from left to right or vice versa. First the first candle. We removed the high-voltage wires from the ignition module and inserted the spark plug key all the way. First, we unscrew it with a knob, and when the spark plug starts moving, we do it with our hands. Carefully turn out the candle. Then they inserted a new spark plug into the key and also carefully screwed it in. First with your hands, then with a crank. The recommended tightening force is 25-30 Nm. Put the wire on. We do the same with all the other candles.

When changing the spark plugs, you probably noticed the grease on the tips of the high-voltage wires and on the heads of the spark plugs. This is a special high-temperature lubricant. Over time, it becomes less and less, so each time you replace it you need to apply a new one.

The Largus manual recommends lubricating the wire contacts and spark plug heads with protective grease Renault Fluorine Grease 8200168855. But the trouble is, it’s difficult to find and the price is almost five rubles. I found it on the auto-peter for 76 rubles, but the supplier refused. Couldn't buy it.

I recently looked at an analogue - Beru ZKF 01 lubricant, art. 0890300029. Price around 600-700 rubles. I'll take it.

What kind of candles were there and what did you put in their place?

This is what my spark plugs look like after 20 thousand miles.

These are two-pin Russian spark plugs 224013682R. I installed the new ones the same way, since there were no problems with them.

That's all. We wish you all useful acquisitions and good luck on the roads!

Spark plug replacement interval for Lada Largus

Regardless of the engine and configuration, Lada Largus spark plugs are changed after 30 thousand kilometers or after 24 months. Depending on what comes first.

However, it is better to change simple nickel spark plugs a little earlier, especially when it comes to 16-valve engines. I would recommend replacing it after 15-20 thousand kilometers.

If it is difficult to start the engine, when the engine stalls or stalls, it is worth checking the spark plugs. Most likely, they have exhausted their resource and need to be replaced. Many owners of the Lada Largus car install analogues after the original spark plugs coming from the factory. More affordable, reliable or durable.

We have selected, in our opinion, the best options for replacing spark plugs on Lada Largus. Let’s immediately make a reservation that if the engine is 8-valve, you can choose any budget model. There is little point in buying expensive iridium models. Their effectiveness becomes noticeable on more complex engines with 16 valves. And in terms of overall dimensions, everything should be clear: the wrench head is 16 mm, the thread length is 19, and its size is M-14. Properly selected spark plugs are the key to stable operation of the exhaust system, catalyst and engine as a whole.

How to check the ignition coil - step by step instructions

An ignition coil is needed in an internal combustion engine to create voltage for the spark at the spark plug, which ignites the fuel. If it does not function correctly, the car engine will not start. This unit is quite reliable, but sometimes wire breaks in the winding, insulation damage, or mechanical damage to the housing occur. How can you tell if the ignition coil is faulty? Let's talk about this in more detail.

In the photo: ignition coils and multimeter

Coil operating principle

Structurally, the coil is a conventional electric step-up transformer. It converts the voltage of the car's on-board network into 12 V, a voltage of several kilovolts.

Ignition coil device

This device consists of a housing in which two windings are placed - high and low voltage. Each coil is characterized by several parameters, of which only the winding resistance is important for testing. Before checking, it is recommended to clarify the value of this parameter for your brand of car.

Step by step procedure for checking the ignition coil

You can check the performance of the ignition coil using two methods - “spark” and using a multimeter. The first method is quite simple and does not require specialized equipment. However, it is only suitable for older cars. Using it in new vehicles may damage this module or disrupt the operation of the entire on-board electronics system. Let's look at both methods in more detail.

Checking the coil using the “spark” method

The main advantage of this method is the possibility of its implementation directly on the road, that is, in camping conditions. It is quite difficult to implement such a check, and its information content will be very low, because the cause of the defect may not be the ignition coil.

To implement this method, you need the following tools and devices:

• Key for unscrewing spark plugs.

• Spark plug (you need to make sure it works).

Checking the coil for spark

Before starting the test, you need to inspect the insulation of the high-voltage wiring and make sure that it is intact. During inspection, do not forget to turn off the ignition using the key. If the first stage is completed successfully, then you should proceed according to the following scheme:

1. Remove the high-voltage wire from the spark plug of the first cylinder and connect it to the previously prepared spark plug.

2. Turn the ignition key so as to start the car (it must be turned to position 2).

3. If the unit being tested is working properly, a spark will appear at the tip of the spark plug. It is important to see what shade it is. Purple is a sign that the coil is working properly, yellow indicates that there are problems, that is, the current is not enough. The absence of a spark eloquently indicates that there are problems with the coil.

Purpose of candles

The only functional purpose of these consumables is to generate a spark. It occurs due to the discharge between the electrodes of the product. By means of the generated spark, the mixture present at a certain moment in the combustion chamber in a compressed state is ignited. This is the basis for the principle of movement of a car equipped with an internal combustion engine Lada Largus.

Over time, the ignition elements wear out the electrodes, which causes interruptions in spark formation. Also, due to incorrect mixture formation, the working elements become overgrown with carbon deposits, which leads to a deterioration in the quality of the spark. A power unit suffering from oil leakage through the oil reflective caps can provoke the formation of plaque on the insulators, which is a harmful factor for these products.

The most common signs of failure include:

  • difficult cold start of the Lada Largus engine, especially in winter;
  • interruptions at idle, as well as misfires in all modes of crankshaft rotation;
  • uncertain acceleration dynamics;
  • increased fuel consumption.

Such significant symptoms force Lada Largus owners to regularly check the condition of these consumables and clean them.

Recommendations for replacement intervals

Officially, replacement of original spark plugs on Lada Largus is required every 30 thousand km. When used in domestic conditions, the service life of consumables barely exceeds 15 thousand km. The reason for this is the low quality of the fuel sold.

During operation, unscheduled replacement of spark plugs may be required. The main reasons for carrying it out are:

  • a long trip is expected;
  • it is impossible to adjust the gap; the spark plug has one of the damages shown in the image below.

    Tools required to replace spark plugs

    The table below presents a list of tools that will be needed to successfully replace spark plugs on a Lada Largus car.

    Replacement on an 8-valve unit

    Job:

    1. We clean the areas on the engine block of 8 valves located around the spark plugs. We do this using a rag or a vacuum cleaner.
    2. We remove the tips of the high voltage wires from each spark plug (sequentially).
    3. Using the key “16” we unscrew and remove the first spark plug and immediately screw in the new product.
    4. We put on the tip.
    5. We do this with all the candles one by one.

    If you remove all the tips at the same time, you will need to mark them in accordance with the cylinder numbers. This is necessary for correct installation, since the spark plug in each cylinder is connected to a strictly defined coil terminal. As you can see, replacing spark plugs is not a complicated procedure, but it is responsible and requires strict adherence to all rules.
