Installation of fog lights on Lada Vesta. Tips and tricks from the experts

Fog lights are installed on a car to improve visibility in bad weather conditions.

Lada Vesta is equipped with PTF only in luxury configuration. All others have plastic plugs at the bottom of the buffer.

Installing PTF on Lada Vesta is not a cheap service. Self-installation will save some money, but requires care and experience on the part of the repairman. Incorrect installation of wiring and electrical circuits can lead to negative consequences and a short circuit.

The main steps when installing fog lights on a Lada Vesta

  1. Placing the machine on an inspection pit, roadside overpass, hydraulic lifting mechanism.
  2. Removing the terminal from the battery, since the work involves voltage, contacts, and relays.
  3. Unscrewing the top, middle, bottom row of fasteners and screws.
  4. Removing the sidewalls of the buffer from the grooves, removing the front part.
  5. Removal of plastic inserts, installation of fasteners for PTF.
  6. Laying the wiring from the left PTF to the fuse block.
  7. Installation of a mechanical button in the cabin, to the left of the steering column.
  8. Laying the cable from the button to the fuse box.
  9. Connection of limit switches according to the provided diagram.
  10. Install the buffer in the reverse order.

Preparing seats and attaching headlights

With the exception of the luxury version, plastic plugs are installed in place of the PTF. Using a special 76 mm bit, we drill holes.

This stage can be avoided if you purchase ready-made factory-made plastic inserts with cutouts in advance. The brackets are installed using three self-tapping screws.

Buy a mechanical button for the car interior in any shape you like. The standard installation location is to the left of the steering column, closer to the trunk lid opening button.

Actions of a traffic police officer in case of detection of a violation

Having visually determined the presence of illegally installed xenon in 2021, the inspector inspects the car. At the same time, he may ask the driver to open the hood. The search is carried out with the invitation of witnesses. If there are no witnesses, it is practiced to use video recording of the inspection (the inspection rules are regulated by Part 2 of Article 27.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). The traffic police officer draws up a report. It should contain information about the driver, car and the employee himself.

In the absence of important information, drawing up a protocol may be delayed for up to two days from the date of the offense. Within 3 days from the date of preparation, the document is sent to the court. The inspector must explain to the driver his rights and obligations. It is possible to dismantle illegal xenon headlights on site and transport the car to an impound lot. Then the protocol is transferred to the magistrate’s court, where they choose a punishment in the form of a fine for xenon or deprivation of the driver’s license.

The total cost, excluding payment for services at a service station, is 45–50 thousand rubles. Installation of fog lights in a workshop - from 60,000 rubles.

One of the problems that the master faces during the installation of the basic version of the Lada Vesta is the new electrical equipment circuit. It is different from Lada Granta, Kalina, Priora.

Standard control of fog lights is implemented via the steering wheel paddle. The activation signal does not go directly to the fog lights, but to the EMM control module. After which the unit redirects the signal via the CAN bus. Installing headlights according to the described scheme is complex, costly, and not always understandable for an inexperienced driver. An alternative and simpler option is to install fog lights using a separate circuit using a relay.

If you still want to improve something

Sometimes motorists want to improve something in their cars. These may be completely acceptable things, such as installing gas equipment, replacing drum disc brakes, installing power steering, air conditioning and other very useful improvements

.

“Statement on the possibility of making changes to the design of the vehicle” If you still decide to legally re-equip your car, start by filling out this application. Download for free!

Despite the obvious advantages, these modifications still need to be registered. All this can be done if the final version of the car’s parameters do not go beyond the limits of the Technical Safety Regulations.

Accordingly, before registering changes in the design of a vehicle, you need to go through a number of procedures

. These are several stages, each of which is important:

obtain a preliminary expert opinion that changes are possible. This is done by accredited laboratories; you will need to make a description of the planned changes and show the car itself; contacting the traffic police with an application to make changes to the design. You must present a report issued by the laboratory. From June 1, 2021, you no longer need to present the car itself.

This is very important, since before this many people had to remove already installed components and assemblies. making changes directly

This can be done by the service center at the laboratory, or by a third-party service. It is important that the service takes into account all the requirements that were set out in the preliminary examination; passing a routine technical inspection at an accredited point and receiving a diagnostic card. Starting next year, cars will begin to be photographed when undergoing maintenance, so it will no longer be possible to buy a recreational vehicle without passing an inspection. receiving directly the technical examination report after changes have been made. This is done again by the laboratory, for which it will have to present documents from the service that carried out all the work, its certificate for services, as well as documents for the replaced parts; Having the examination report, you can already obtain from the traffic police a certificate of compliance of the vehicle design with safety requirements (SCTS); Based on the SKTS, you can enter information about the conversion of the car into the PTS and SRTS. Accordingly, after this the car with the modified design can be used.

Naturally, the laboratory will be able to issue a protocol only if all changes to the design are acceptable. If it is known in advance that the car will not pass the examination, this must be reported at the very beginning

- at the preliminary examination.

Connection diagram for PTF on Lada Vesta

Sequence of actions for connecting Lada Vesta fog lights:

  1. We install the car within the perimeter of the repair area, provide safety measures, and secure the rear row of wheels with wheel chocks.
  2. We gradually unscrew the top, middle, bottom row of screws.

  3. We remove the side clamps from the grooves.
  4. We remove the front bumper assembly and fix it on a workbench for ease of work.
  5. Using a crown (diameter 76 mm), we drill the left and right holes for the PTF. If you purchased ready-made brackets, then install them and secure them with three self-tapping screws.
  6. We lay the wiring under the plastic buffer amplifier and clamp it with clamps. Screw the buffer into place.
  7. We lay the cable to the fuse block.
  8. We install a mechanical button in the interior. The location is determined at personal discretion. We bring the limit switches to the fuse and relay block.
  9. We take the load power from a 12 V battery. We connect the control “plus” from the side lights or the cigarette lighter. We install the relay in the cabin under the dashboard above the pedal complex.

  10. As an alternative option, a steering column switch from Renault Duster with a fixed engagement is installed (article 8201167981).

With this scheme, the fog lights are activated when the headlights and low beam are turned on.

There is a third activation method: using a pulse relay, using the steering column switch, which are equipped with the Standard and Comfort versions. Installation work is carried out exclusively in the cabin, outside the engine compartment.

Removing the front bumper

Considering the massiveness and aesthetic component of this element in the exterior, dismantling the front bumper should be done carefully and strictly according to the instructions.

First of all, you need to disconnect and remove the battery from under the hood. Then, using a “10” head, unscrew the 2 bolts securing the air filter unit, which also hold the upper part of the bumper.

Removing the front bumper on Lada Vesta

The registration numbers are removed, under which there are 2 screws securing the bumper to the central beam. Using an L-shaped TORX “20” key, unscrew these 2 screws and 2 of the same self-tapping screws that attach the bumper to the wings in the wheel arches.

Then, using an L-shaped TORX “30”, unscrew 4 screws securing the lower part of the bumper, and TORX-20 – 2 more screws securing them to the side panels on each side.

Removing the lower part of the front bumper of Lada Vesta

After this, the bumper is pulled forward, alternately on each side of the wheel arches, until its latches come out of the mounting sockets.

The bumper remains hanging on the top four TORX-30 key bolts, of which the central one (opposite the hood lock bracket) is unscrewed last, while keeping the bumper from falling, after which the accessory is completely disconnected from the car.

It is advisable to use this situation to simultaneously clean the radiator from insects and debris.

When is the fine for xenon lamps applied?

A competent lawyer can, instead of depriving the driver of his driving license, help the driver receive only a fine for xenon. Even if gas-discharge lamps are installed in a car that is not designed for xenon lighting devices. For example, in headlights designed for halogen bulbs.

If traffic police officers record a violation of the installation of xenon light devices, lawyers seek to reclassify the original charge from the third to the first part of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

  • In Part 1, drivers are charged with driving a car with malfunctions or under conditions in which the use of the vehicle is prohibited. For this violation, the law provides for a warning or a fine of 500 rubles.
  • The third part of the article deals with driving a car that has headlights with red lights, reflective devices of the same color, or lighting devices that do not comply with the color of the lights and operating mode to current standards. In this case, the driver faces deprivation of his license for xenon for a period of 6 to 12 months and confiscation of illegal lighting devices.

Lawyers justify the need to requalify the article by the fact that the instructions for the car do not indicate that xenon light is prohibited, and the temperature and color of the lighting do not go beyond GOST.

Recommendations for selection

When purchasing, check the catalog numbers with the actual data specified in the instruction manual. Get advice from service center specialists regarding the compatibility of the PTF with your car model.

Check the presence of the barcode, date, batch number, and integrity of the packaging. Ask managers to provide you with quality certificates for products.

Conclusion

Installing fog lights on a Lada Vesta with your own hands is not difficult. Difficulties most often arise when connecting the electrical component rather than installation.

Before connecting the limit switches, be sure to disconnect the terminals from the battery to prevent a short circuit in case of incorrect connection.

What is the fine for xenon

And now let's turn to the very source of punishment - the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, in Part 3 of Art. 12.5 of which provides for responsibility for the installation of xenon lamps in the external lighting devices of the car. The sanction in this article is unambiguous and is not subject to double interpretation: deprivation of rights for xenon for a period of 6 months to 1 year. At the same time, lighting devices that do not comply with the Basic Provisions for Approval, approved. by Government Decree No. 1090 dated October 23, 1993, are confiscated.

Agree, the punishment is quite serious! But why?

So, let's look at the reasons why xenon is considered a hazard on the road.

There is only one reason: xenon headlights can blind drivers driving behind or in the oncoming lane.

Xenon headlights may compromise road safety due to technical and physical factors. So it turns out that the presence of xenon in headlights intended for halogen lamps should be qualified as a discrepancy between the operating mode of the external lighting device and the technical characteristics of the car.

So why then is xenon so popular among car enthusiasts?

There is a point of view according to which xenon headlights illuminate the road better than halogen ones. But no! A car with xenon headlights really lights up and flashes like a Christmas tree. Only the xenon reflectors shine in the wrong place. Everywhere except in the right direction. So the situation turns out: it seems light, but not quite!

Accordingly, if it is determined that xenon cannot be installed on a given car, then it should be removed, and the car (if it is impossible to remove the headlights) should be prohibited from being used.

That is, the license plates are removed from the car and driven to a specialized parking lot. But! There are situations when it is not possible to remove the lamps from the headlights. This, in particular, applies to stopping the car at night, in bad weather conditions, etc.

So, there is no fine for xenon - only deprivation of driving rights. But only the court can do this.

The decision to initiate administrative proceedings is sent to the magistrate's court, a court date is set, and at the end of the consideration of the case, a court decision is made.

This decision can be appealed to a higher court.

Now let's take a closer look at some points.

We all know that the actions of police officers are clearly regulated by relevant legal acts, so if they violate any norm, they may be punished for it.

Let's start with the arrest. The arrest of a vehicle (in our case, external lighting devices, that is, headlights with xenon lamps) must be carried out in the following order:

  1. When seized, an inventory of the seized items must be compiled, which is confirmed by the owner of the vehicle.
  2. The arrest is carried out in the presence of the owner (except for situations where the arrest must be made immediately and the owner is absent) and 2 witnesses.
  3. If necessary, during an arrest, video and photographic recording of all procedural actions is possible.
  4. Based on the results of the seizure, a protocol is drawn up, which must contain information regarding the subject of the arrest, the owner of the car, video or photographic recording, etc. The owner of the car, the police officer and attesting witnesses must sign the protocol. In case of photo and video filming, all materials must be attached to the protocol.
  5. A copy of the protocol is given to the owner of the vehicle.

The entire above procedure must be followed in this order. If you see that something went wrong, record it and reflect it either in a complaint or in objections at a court hearing.

You can also pay attention to the fact that a case of administrative offense has been initiated:

  1. After “illegal” xenon has been discovered in the headlights of your car, the traffic police inspector must issue an appropriate ruling on an administrative violation.
  2. The guilty person is explained his rights and obligations.
  3. In case of disagreement with the charges brought against him, the driver of the car has the right to write his objections in the protocol. Remember: if you do not write them right away, it will be difficult to explain in court why you remained silent.
  4. The protocol must be drawn up at the scene of the offense, but if additional information is needed to draw it up, then the drawing up must occur within no more than 2 days from the moment the offense was discovered by a police officer.
  5. Within 3 days after drawing up the protocol, it is sent to the court to consider the case of an administrative offense.

11.Kirill , 38 years old, St. Petersburg: garage mates recommended installing Autostol63261500097R instead of factory headlights. The cost of Autostol is one and a half thousand more expensive than the factory analogue, but the quality is obvious.
12.Valentin , 42 years old, Rostov-on-Don: I drove Vesta for six months, the car is good. There are not enough fog lights, weather conditions have worsened, visibility has decreased. I have selected several options: Valeo 47401, Autostol63 261500097R, I will choose and consult with specialists.
Video - Installing fog lightsVideo - Installation without intervention in the ECU

Is this really necessary?

Road safety comes first! Installing fog lights on Vesta will improve this indicator (subject to proper adjustment) during bad weather conditions, when visibility is significantly reduced. Thanks to the beam angle and beam strength of these headlights, the driver can see the road better. And it’s easier for other motorists to notice such a car.

PTFs are also useful at night, they allow you to avoid dangerous situations on the roads, since the driver can see not only the space in front of the car, but also beyond the curb or side of the road.

From an aesthetic point of view, the Lada Vesta with fog lights looks more expressive and respectable.
