Restyling 2021

Grant's car underwent its first restyling in 2014, but then the improvements were very insignificant.
The second restyled version of FL turned out to be more interesting, and the following changes took place: due to the updated front bumper and radiator grille, the front part of the car became completely different, similar to the Lada Vesta and XRAY; original headlights appeared; the front nameplate has been significantly enlarged; “we moved” both washer nozzles from the hood to the windshield frill; the sedan's trunk lid has taken on a different shape, and now it has a platform for a license plate; the wheel arches are protected from a soft plastic material with excellent moisture resistance and strength; The trunk lock of the sedan, liftback, hatchback and station wagon was supplemented with an electric opening button on the outside; a black plastic insert was added to the rear bumpers of all body versions; all modifications of Granta began to be equipped with a Glonass warning system with a power button on the front headliner; All five headrests have “grown” in size.

Now cars in the FL version are equipped with bumpers in body color, and instead of the old Granta instrument panel, a dashboard from the Lada Kalina is installed. The seats in the cabin have also been improved - they have new upholstery, and the front seats have acquired lateral support bolsters; in addition, the driver’s “seat” in top trim levels has become adjustable in height.

Engines and transmission

The updated Lada Granta, as before restyling, is equipped with three types of engines
- these are in-line gasoline engines with the same cylinder capacity of 1.6 liters, but differing in design and power:

VAZ-11183-50 – eight-valve, 87 horsepower, injector, with a torque of 140 N*m, available only in tandem with a five-speed manual gearbox; VAZ-21126 - sixteen valve, 98 l. s., injector, 145 N*m, comes complete with a 4-speed Jatco automatic transmission developed by Nissan/Renault; VAZ-21127 – 16-valve, 106 l. s., injector, 148 N*m, can work on the Grant with both a manual transmission-5 and a 5-speed “robot” gearbox, otherwise called an automatic manual transmission (AMT).

The base car with an 87-horsepower engine and manual transmission is designed for a maximum speed of 170 km/h and accelerates to “hundreds” in 11.9 seconds. Average fuel consumption per 100 km for this modification is 6.8 liters, fuel consumption in city mode is 9.1 liters, on the highway - 5.3 liters.

In the version with a VAZ-21126 engine and automatic transmission-4, the car can reach speeds of up to 176 kilometers per hour, accelerate to 100 km/h in 13.1 seconds, and the average fuel consumption for version 1.6 AT is 7.2 l/100 km. The most powerful VAZ-21127 engine in the line allows the car to travel at a top speed of 182 km/h and accelerate to a maximum of one hundred kilometers per hour in 10.7 seconds. And this engine is the most economical, gasoline consumption in the combined cycle is 6.5 l/100 km. The new body of the Lada Granta 2021 station wagon, although it is a carriage, does not stand out with particularly large dimensions. Yes, the car is slightly larger than the sedan version, but you won’t be able to fit much more stuff here. The front of the car still takes up very little space. At the very top there is a perfectly flat hood cover, located at a slight inclination to the road. Further here you can notice huge headlights, filled only with halogen lights.

At the ends of the air intake system you can find modest fog lights, which have a round shape. They are installed exclusively in a rich configuration. The doors here are decorated with a modest protruding strip running along their entire length. Also here you can see slightly widened wheel arches and other minor decorative elements.

The body kit is also simple in design, including only a plastic diffuser and anti-fog optics in an extended configuration. The exhaust system here is completely routed under the bottom of the car.

Salon

Of course, the interior of the Lada Granta SW 2021 station wagon cannot exactly be called luxurious, but what is available here is enough to travel even over long distances. The interior of the car is finished exclusively with inexpensive materials, such as fabrics and plastic, but all of them are of fairly high quality. Now there is nothing holding it together, and the seats and other interior elements should become more wear-resistant. A test drive later will show how true this statement is.

The center console of the car is designed as simply as possible. It has quite large dimensions, but you won’t be able to find a ton of functional controls on it. At the very top there is a pair of neat deflectors, and directly below them there is either a multimedia system monitor or a simple radio tape recorder. These elements are surrounded by analog buttons. At the end of the console you can find washers for the climate system, a few more buttons and holes for accessories.

The driver's seat here is designed exactly the same as in other Lada models. The steering wheel has large dimensions and a rather thick steering wheel, upholstered in fabric. Any buttons for controlling multimedia or assistants are installed here only at an additional cost. Behind the steering wheel you can find a massive instrument panel filled with a pair of round analog gauges that are beautifully illuminated in different colors, as well as a modest on-board computer monitor located vertically.

Although the Granta SW station wagon is much more spacious than a sedan, five people can still fit here with difficulty. Each seat is made of simple fabric and is equipped with a minimum set of functions. Passengers in the first row can only be content with mechanical seat adjustments, headrests, simulated lateral support and heating. The three-seater sofa, located on the second row, is equipped only with headrests and a central armrest, for which you will have to pay extra.

The wagon's capacity is very small - only 355 liters in standard form. When the second row is removed, this figure only increases to 670 liters. The only saving grace is the presence of an underground space in which the spare tire and some tools are located. In general, you definitely won’t be able to take a lot of things with you on a trip.

Up to 100 km/h, the Granta shoots excellently, but at slightly higher speeds you realize that the dynamics are no longer so impressive. In general, long overtakes should be planned in advance.

The manual transmission surprised me in a good way. It works with the clarity of an automatic shutter and there has never been any confusion between “first” and “third”. Moreover, each transmission is quite “long”. For example, in “second” it is quite possible to accelerate the car to 80 km/h. In any case, the tachometer needle is not yet entering the red zone. In other words, even in a traffic jam, you don’t have to pull the gearbox handle often.

The new LADA Granta is now available not only in sedan and liftback body styles, but also in hatchback and station wagon. Thus, in terms of reaching a potential audience, AVTOVAZ has closed all the holes that appeared after the Kalina was discontinued from production, from which, in fact, a couple of new bodies were received.

With the advent of the updated LADA Granta line, it has every chance to once again regain its leadership in the sales ranking on the Russian market, which the Koreans brazenly took away from AVTOVAZ. Or doesn't it?

Budget, but not squalid

Firstly, the car is made very well both outside and inside (yes, even if it has not yet reached the level of these same Koreans, it is a definite breakthrough for the Russian automobile industry). "Granta" does not give the impression of being cheap. Secondly (and this is perhaps the most important thing), it’s not so budget-friendly anymore.

Judge for yourself: the price tag for the new LADA Granta starts at 420,000 rubles (this is an option with a 5-speed manual with an 87-horsepower engine in the Standard configuration), and something more or less decent - this means a 106-horsepower engine with A 5-speed “robot” in the Optima configuration will cost just over half a million.

Well, if we take a swing at the Luxe package with a 4-speed real “automatic”, then take out and put in almost 610,000 “wooden” ones. And this, excuse me, is already the price of a LADA Vesta, and also not in the worst configuration. By God, my ideas about a budget car have a ceiling of 400,000 rubles. And, I’m afraid, the issue of price will most disappoint potential owners of the fresh Granta.

It makes sense to buy Granta only in cheap versions up to 500 thousand, journalists say.

At the Moscow Motor Show at the end of August, AvtoVAZ presented the updated Lada Granta family. The main differences are in the exterior: the budget line received a face from Vesta in the signature X-style. Moreover, the model range has grown to 5 models: the sedan and liftback have been joined by a hatchback, a station wagon and a cross-station wagon. True, these are not new models: they all came from the Kalina family, which ceased to exist.

But still, the main news of the update is different: now all three motors are “plug-inless”. You no longer have to be afraid of major repairs when the timing belt breaks. Motorists have been waiting for this decision for quite a long time, but AvtoVAZ did not even particularly advertise these changes on the updated family.

All that remains is to wait for the changes on Vesta. The rest of the changes are purely cosmetic: this is the Kalinovsky center console and the orange instrument panel.

However, oddly enough, journalists were not delighted with the restyling. Autoreview even recommends buying Vesta instead of Granta in its review. There are many arguments. This is also controllability: there is no feedback on the steering wheel, but every hole on it is immediately felt. And new headlights with one lamp were also “received” from journalists: the low beam shines poorly, the high beam is too narrow. Plus, you have to pay extra for ESP in the liftback, even at maximum speed.

But Vesta is also favored by a smooth ride, better handling and noise insulation, and more space.

You say, what about the prices? Basic Vesta costs 570 thousand rubles. The Grant sedan in the Lux configuration with a 106-horsepower engine will cost 554 thousand rubles. The difference is only 16 thousand! Or you can also buy the Prestige package, then it will cost 573 thousand (see all prices).

It is clear that the basic Granta, up to 500 thousand, is not a competitor to Vesta, but if you look towards the luxury configuration, it is literally just a little short of Vesta, and the difference in classes is visible to the naked eye, the journalists sum it up.
