Replacing the generator on Lada Granta 16 valves
At the preparatory stage, we will need the same tools and materials as in the case of the 8-valve Granta.
The design of the 16-valve modification of the Lada Granta has an alternator belt tensioner installed. This must be taken into account during repairs.
- The car is in the perimeter of the repair area, the battery terminal has been removed, the oil pan is protected.
- By analogy, we disconnect the power terminals from the converter and the protective cap.
- The key is set to “13”, release the upper lock of the generator, move it to the right until it stops.
- Remove the belt from the pulley.
- Unscrew the lower fastening and remove the bushing.
- We remove the generator from its regular place.
Preparing the car
To fix problems with the Lada Granta generator, you will need to remove this device. Removing it has certain difficulties, but performing this procedure on your own is quite possible. In addition, dismantling has some features caused by differences in engine configuration (8 or 16 valves), as well as the presence of air conditioning.
To remove the generator from an eight-valve and sixteen-valve Granta that is not equipped with air conditioning, you will need a mounting blade and wrenches 8, 10 and 13. To carry out the same manipulation on a car equipped with air conditioning, you will need a jack, four socket wrenches (a wrench for 18), WD-40 and a wheel wrench.
Replacing a generator on a Lada Granta with air conditioning
At the preparatory stage we will need the above tools and materials.
- After unscrewing the converter mounts, hang up the front of the car, unscrew the bolts, and remove the right wheel.
- Through the opening in the wheel arch we unscrew the tension roller and the engine mount mount.
- We lower the car with a jack until access to the generator opens.
- The further dismantling algorithm is no different from that described above.
We carry out preventive maintenance, replace the unit with a new one, and assemble the structure in the reverse order.
Where is the generator located on the Lada Grant?
On cars of the Lada Granta family, the current converter is located in the engine compartment, on the left side.
Engine compartment When carrying out repairs, you may experience difficulties with access to the converter mounts. For convenience, remove the oil pan protection and hang the front of the car.
Replacing a generator on a Lada with air conditioning
The air conditioning compressor and alternator are driven by one belt. The air conditioning compressor, its tubes and hoses make it difficult to remove the generator.
It is necessary to additionally disconnect the compressor (No. 2) from its mounting bracket (No. 3) by unscrewing the four bolts (No. 1). There is no need to disconnect the air conditioning system pipes; we simply move the compressor down and towards the right side member of the body. Otherwise, the process of removing the generator is similar (see above).
Installation of the generator is carried out in reverse order. When pressed with a force of 100 N (10 kgf), the belt deflection should be 8-12 mm. (you can use scales). Due to its smaller height, Bosch 110A is 10 mm lower than its analogue. Despite the minor advantages, BOSCH has one “fat” drawback - there is no possibility of quick (cold) replacement of the diode bridge in the event of its failure.

- Installing the car in the repair area.
- Unscrewing the fastening elements of the converter while simultaneously hanging up the front of the machine.
- Unscrewing the bolts responsible for fixing the wheel and dismantling the right structure.
- Unscrewing the tension roller through the opening in the mounting wheel holding the engine mount.
- Use a jack until the generator is accessible.
- Perform the previously described steps to dismantle the structure.
So the only difference is that the dismantling is done on the other side. After this, the owner of the Lada Granta will only have to carry out preventative maintenance on the device and, if necessary, replace the generator with a new one.
In the end, it should be said that the generator is an important design element of any car, including the Lada Granta, without which its operation is not possible. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor its condition and replace it if necessary.
