We clean the injectors on a 16-valve VAZ-2112 with our own hands: washing and chemicals

When is injector cleaning necessary?

In order to understand the condition of the injectors, you need to clearly listen to the “whispering” of your engine:

  1. increased fuel consumption (consumption rates),
  2. "triple" of the engine,
  3. unstable operation at idle,
  4. breakdowns during engine operation.

These symptoms should alert you and make you think about the stable operation of the system as a whole.

Frequency of cleaning injectors

There is no specific point in time that would indicate the frequency of their cleaning. Remember that if nothing bothers you about the operation of the engine, then there is definitely nothing that needs to be repaired. However, if symptoms appear, it is best to first carry out an analysis and determine the exact cause of the problem.

What will cleaning do?

When the injectors are cleaned, you will immediately feel changes in the operation of the engine. However, note that this depends on the amount of carbon deposits and instability before the cleaning process. Therefore, the more contaminants there are, the better the cleaning is done, the greater the chance of getting serviceable injectors.

Signs of injector contamination.

When the injectors of an injection engine of any vehicle become dirty, characteristic signs of malfunction arise, which necessitates the need to clean the engine injectors. Among these signs we note:

  • Difficulty starting the engine, especially as the outside temperature drops and the engine is cold;
  • Unstable engine operation at idle;
  • Perceptible dips when sharply or smoothly pressing the accelerator pedal;
  • Loss of acceleration dynamics and power by the motor;
  • Increased gasoline consumption;
  • Increased toxicity of CO-CH exhaust gases;
  • A several-fold increase in detonation when accelerating, which is a consequence of an increase in temperature directly in the combustion chamber and a depletion of the air-fuel mixture;
  • Misfires (ignition);
  • Periodic, characteristic popping sounds directly in the exhaust system;
  • Premature failure of sensors, including the catalytic converter, spark plugs and oxygen sensor (lambda probe).

It should be noted that even if all the problems listed above are present during the operation of your machine, this does not mean that the cause is clogged injectors. These problems can arise for a large number of reasons - from the failure of any sensor (air meter, throttle sensor, lambda probe, IAC) or a drop in pressure in the fuel system (RDT, fuel filter, fuel pump), to spark plugs.

Cleaning engine injectors

This method is not the actual cleaning of the injectors, but it fully allows you to get rid of deposits on them without resorting to dismantling them.

First of all, this is much faster, but on the other hand, the result is not always effective. However, as VAZ-2112 car owners say, in some cases, this really helps.

Work process

  1. A compressor is connected to the system, similar to that described earlier, which is capable of increasing the pressure in the ramp to 3.2 atmospheres. In parallel, we connect a purifier in a container of at least 1 liter. (Most often, special injector cleaners are used in metal containers - approx.).
  2. Next, we start the engine and let it run for 10 minutes, after which we stop and let it rest for the same amount of time.
  3. Then we start it again and, by re-gassing, pass the entire liter of liquid through the injectors.
  4. When the engine stalls, change the spark plugs, which will become covered with soot.

The entire process of work in this way should not exceed one hour.

By the way, such work can render spark plugs unusable, so clean the injectors on the engine using old or spare spark plugs. Or guess the moment when you will change the spark plugs. We have already talked about the choice of spark plugs for 16-valve engines.

Injectors for VAZ 2110–2112 cars

Cars of the “tenth” family are equipped with various injection engines, each of which is designed to work with a specific model of injectors. Despite the fact that they have their own “names,” motorists usually use a “folk” classification based on color and thickness. For example: black thin ones.

This simplification usually works, but does not fully guarantee the compatibility of the injector with the engine. To avoid having to contact the chip tuner once again to correct the firmware of the electronic injection control unit, check the part number before purchasing.

Differences between injectors for eight and sixteen valve engines

Among some motorists there is an opinion that the injectors for the “ten” differ depending on the number of engine valves. Others believe that the determining factor is the volume of the cylinders.

Clogged injectors can cause the car to jerk when driving. Details:

In reality, neither one nor the other is wrong. The parts must match the engine design, model and firmware of the electronic control unit.

When replacing, it is best to install the same ones that were installed previously. Otherwise, there may be difficulties with startup and operation in transient conditions. To eliminate the shortcomings, you will have to adjust the firmware, which is almost impossible in a garage environment.

In-cylinder fuel injection has been known since the very dawn of the automobile industry.
In the early 1890s, the German Rudolf Diesel and the Englishman Herbert Ackroyd-Stewart secured the rights to their own designs for an internal combustion engine running on fuel oil. Vladimir Bekrenev

Cleaning injectors with ultrasound

And another method that can be easily used to clean them is ultrasound.

Pros and cons of using ultrasound

There is still debate about how useful this method is, and there is no consensus on this. Some say that this method harms the injectors due to the destruction of the mesh, and that such work should only be combined with washing and dismantling. Others say that such work has a very good effect on the condition of the injectors and does not harm them in any way; moreover, the condition of ultrasonic cleaned injectors is comparable to new parts.

In any case, it is up to you to decide whether to use this method. The cost of such work at a car service is 2,000 rubles and takes about 4 hours.

Flushing the VAZ injector

How to wash the injectors of a VAZ 2112 16 valves

Basically, the fuel system becomes dirty precisely because of the fuel, and often because of the one that is considered the cleanest. Gasoline contains olefins, waxes and tars in the system of any car. They settle on pressure regulators, walls of fuel lines and injectors.

And the result of such a process, as a rule, is a significant deterioration in the performance of various elements of the car, to a greater extent this concerns the injectors.

Signs that a VAZ injector needs flushing are:

  • high fuel consumption (especially if you are sure that your car should eat less);
  • twitching or even failures during acceleration;
  • the car loses significant power;
  • Unstable speed appears.

The best treatment, as cliché as it may seem, is prevention. Therefore, the first method of cleaning the mechanism is one that involves pouring a cleaning additive into the gas tank. On average, the simplest bottle of such a product is designed for approximately 60-80 liters of any fuel. But this option is only suitable for new cars, and it will not bring anything but problems to old ones.

How to wash the injectors of a VAZ 2112 16 valves
In order to thoroughly flush the injector of VAZ 2112, 2110, 2114, you need to connect a special installation. Be sure to disconnect the gas line, fuel filter and gas tank of the car. After this, you can start the engine and let it run for half an hour using only the flushing mixture supplied from the installation under a pressure of 3-6 atmospheres.

After carrying out such washing, it is necessary to replace the spark plugs, because the old ones, alas, are no longer suitable. This happens because lead, which is a good conductor of electricity, settles on the electrodes of the spark plugs during flushing.

After the VAZ injector has been flushed, you need to drive several kilometers in active mode so that the half-dissolved carbon deposits and flushing fluid are completely removed from the system. This method is undoubtedly good not only because it is incredibly effective, but also because it is relatively inexpensive.

It should be noted that the stands that are designed for cleaning injectors are mostly of the vibration type.

In this case, the vibrations are tuned to destroy carbon compounds, which means they can damage the injectors, because some of them are of carbon origin.

Chemical cleaning does not involve mechanical intervention, which means that damage to the injectors in this case is excluded. Experts say that approximately every 30-35 thousand km the injectors should be chemically cleaned.

Prices for cleaning injectors

  • In order to clean the injectors that have been removed and fixed on the ramp, you will need a total cost of about 500 rubles .
  • And to clean them in the service, you will pay about 2000 rubles , and this is the same as when cleaning with ultrasound.

Since such work does not pose any difficulty, it is much easier to do everything yourself.

Injector prices

If, after the cleaning and diagnostic procedure, you come to the conclusion that it is completely faulty and needs to be replaced, then it is worth noting that you should buy a strictly analog nozzle, with the part number indicated on its body. The average price for them is in the range of 1000-1500 rubles.

Procedure for cleaning and replacing rubber seals

It is best to remove the injectors from the fuel rail and blow and clean each of them, and at the same time inspect them for wear on the rings. This method has a huge advantage over using an additive, since you can visually check how well the restoration work was carried out.

What tool can you use to make repairs?

To dismantle and replace seals you will need:

  • diamond key 8;
  • carburetor cleaner;
  • a can of compressed air;
  • rubber hose (you can use a vacuum cleaner);
  • syringe with outlet diameter 10 mm;
  • wire approximately 2 meters long;
  • standard set of rings for injectors (includes eight products);
  • rubber seals for fuel lines.

The repair and cleaning process is as follows:

  1. Remove the rubber seal from the nozzle.
  2. Place the rubber hose on the tail part of the nozzle.
  3. Connect the wire to the battery (you can choose any terminal).
  4. On the reverse side of the hose, connect an aerosol tube through a syringe to flush the carburetor.
  5. Holding the entire structure with your hands, spray the cleaner several times until the jets emitted become uniform.
  6. After cleaning, it is recommended to use the same principle to blow out the injectors with air from a can.
  7. Next, it is recommended to immediately put new rings on the product, after moistening them with gasoline.

The injector repair procedure can be considered accessible to beginners and inexperienced drivers. The only difficulty is dismantling the fuel rail, since you will have to first relieve the pressure in the system. Cleaning and replacing the rings on the injectors with your own hands gives the driver the opportunity to carry out the highest quality repairs of these elements and be confident that repeating the procedure will not be necessary for a long time.
