The fuel filter plays a very important role in the functioning of the Lada Granta power unit. If it were not for this small detail, the engine life would be reduced several times and would not operate at full capacity and with frequent interruptions.

It is to ensure that only clean fuel enters the combustion chamber that a special purifier is installed. It is designed quite simply, but its importance is difficult to overestimate.

Car Lada Granta

It is important to know that replacing the fuel filter of a Lada Granta is a very simple process, for which you should not go to a service station and pay extra money. Any driver, after reading our article and watching the video, will be able to cope with this simple job on his own.

When is it necessary to change?

According to the instructions, the fuel purifier should be changed every 30,000 kilometers or as it becomes dirty. The latter is especially relevant for our conditions. Firstly, the low quality of the gasoline itself and, secondly, the unsatisfactory quality of transportation and storage containers. That is why, in order for the power unit of your car to operate steadily and reliably, we recommend replacing it every 10,000 km.

New fuel filter

How many fuel filters are there on the Grant, where are they located and which one to install?

On the Lada Granta, as on most modern cars, Renault provides 2 fuel filters in the fuel system - the main one (fine filter) and the pump mesh filter (coarse filter).

Main fuel

The Granta filter is located in the rear part under the bottom of the car, near the gasoline tank, next to the threshold of the body. By design, the stock filter, which is installed from the factory, has a black plastic housing. There is an arrow on it indicating the direction of fuel movement, which should be followed when replacing. Part number - 2190-1117010, price - 320 rubles. Manufacturer: Motorika company.

What is noteworthy is that exactly the same filter with a plastic housing is rarely found on sale. More often you can find its complete analogue in a metal case, which is also intended for the Chevrolet Niva - 21230-1117010-81. In terms of characteristics, dimensions and design (except for the body material), they are the same and are interchangeable. Filters similar in size and design were originally installed on other AvtoVAZ cars - Priora and Kalina. Also, if necessary, you can supply a fuel

filter from Lanos, Chevrolet Aveo or Nubira, Opel Astra G. They are all similar in size and characteristics.

The filter element of the Granta fuel filter uses special high-quality paper. There is also unconfirmed information disseminated by many drivers that it does not allow water to pass through, while all other analogues do, but most likely this is pure marketing.

Despite this statement, as a rule, when replacing the main Granta filter, drivers more often use analogues than the original. The table below shows the most popular of them.

In fact, there is no difference which filter to install. The degree of purification for all is almost identical. Therefore, both the cheap Filtron and the more expensive MAHLE will work equally well. The main criterion is that the spare part must not be a counterfeit and must be replaced in a timely manner.

Filter

-the mesh (coarse) is located in the fuel tank. It is attached to the pump, which is located in a special plastic module immersed in the gas tank. To access the coarse filter, you need to lift the rear seat and unscrew the cover holding the fuel module with the pump and sensors. Article number of the original spare part - 21101113920000, price - 50 rubles. The same mesh is installed on Kalina. The most popular analogue is Krauf KR1012F, price - 150 rubles.

When and how to replace the fuel filter on a Grant?

According to the Grants maintenance regulations, the manufacturer recommends replacing the main fuel filter every 30 thousand kilometers. Many drivers are of the opinion that for longer engine life it is better

every 15-20 thousand km, especially considering that the quality of domestic fuel is not always high. Before replacing it, it is advisable to relieve the pressure in the fuel rail. To do this, you need to pull out the fuel pump fuse F21 (blue 15 A), start the car, and wait until it stalls. Then try to start it 2-3 more times, and if it doesn’t start, proceed with replacement.

Replacing the mesh filter is not separately regulated, but it is recommended to change it approximately every 70 - 80 thousand km. And at each maintenance, it is advisable to simply rinse it with carburetor cleaning fluid.

Causes of fuel filter failure

The fuel at our gas stations is not cleaned as it should be - it may contain dust particles or other contaminants. All this debris ends up in the fuel filter, which does not allow it to pass further into the system. But over time, as pollution accumulates in it, it ceases to cope with its responsibilities. This is very dangerous because it can cause damage not only to many components of the fuel system, but also to the power plant.

If you delay the change, problems may arise with the injectors, valves, and ultimately the engine will refuse to work at all. That is why it is important to know the symptoms of fuel barrier contamination, and if detected, replace this part in a timely manner.

How to understand when it's time to change the filter

Based on some indicators, you can guess that the cleaning system needs to be replaced. There are certain “symptoms” of a clogged filter:

  1. The engine started to have difficulty starting.
  2. Power has decreased. This is noticeable while moving.
  3. Engine dynamics have deteriorated.

These same “symptoms” may indicate that the fuel pump is faulty. But if the problem is in the filter, fuel consumption increases noticeably. Black exhaust appears.

Please note: you cannot ignore or delay filter replacement! This could result in serious and costly damage. For example, injectors will fail or carbon deposits will accumulate on the valves. The engine will have to be completely disassembled and repaired.

What's the best way to change?

It is better to carry out the replacement yourself, because it is a simple process, and the service station will charge you a decent amount for it. In addition, if the vehicle is actively used, such a procedure will have to be performed frequently.

This video shows how the replacement occurs.

Stages

On almost all Lada Granta car models, the fuel filter is located to the right of the tank next to the rear wheel. It is held in place by mounting clamps. Getting to it is not difficult, but you will have to jack up the car if there is no hole or lift.

The required element is indicated by a red arrow

  1. So, first of all, we drive the vehicle into a pit or lift it with a jack.
  2. Since the fuel in a vehicle is always under a certain pressure, it must be relieved before intervening in the system.
  3. This is done simply. Turn off the ignition. Find where the fuse box is located.
  4. Remove the cover.
  5. Using the Granta electrical system diagram, we find the location of the fuel pump fuse. In the photo, the red arrow points to it
  6. Using tweezers, remove it.
  7. Now we need to start the engine, let it idle until it stops due to running out of fuel.
  8. Turn on the starter for a few more seconds. All pressure in the system has been released.
  9. We find where the fuel cleaning element is located. To make it easier for you, it is mounted on the gas tank near the right threshold of the body.
  10. Squeeze the clamps and pull the fuel pipe off the cleaner fitting.
  11. We also pull off the second tip of the fuel pipe from the second filter fitting.
  12. Now you need to slide the fuel purifier out of the bracket.
  13. Let's take it off.
  14. There may be some gasoline left in the filter; it must be drained into a previously prepared container.
  15. We install the new filter in the reverse order of removal.
  16. Please note that the arrow on the body indicates the direction of movement of the fuel, in our case - to the front of the vehicle.
  17. We put the tips on the fittings until the latches snap into place.
  18. We check how well the filter is secured, whether it is wobbly or loose. It is located between the stops, which are obstacles to its displacement.
  19. Replace the fuse.
  20. Turn the ignition key. The car may not start immediately, as it will take some time for the fuel to reach the combustion chamber.
  21. We look to see if gasoline is leaking at the junction of the fuel filter with the system.

Which filter is better to install on the Lada Granta

Before replacing the filter element, you need to find out which one is best to buy so as not to harm the fuel system. The most popular filter manufacturers that are recommended for the Lada Granta are these:

  • LOGEM LRT-328;
  • FILTRON OP643/3;
  • FORTECH FO-018;
  • GOODWILL OG 313;
  • KLAXAR FRANCE FH006Z;
  • MECAFILTER ELH4196.

Users consider the Renault filter 7700274177 or analogues of this brand to be the best option. In order not to run into a cheap fake, it is recommended to buy the item in a specialized store and ask the seller for a certificate.

Replacement frequency

Most manufacturers of cars with gasoline engines have recently sought to maximize the service life of fuel filters. The LADA Granta car uses “eternal” coarse filters. That is, a mesh filter

is not subject to maintenance during the entire service life of the fuel pump and is replaced along with it.

However, to strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations, it is necessary to refuel the car with clean, high-quality fuel. In practice, various impurities often enter the tank, significantly reducing the throughput of the filter. Therefore, the grid should be checked, cleaned or replaced every time the fuel module is removed from the tank and when diagnosing the causes of unstable engine operation.

Fuel filter

fine cleaning - consumable item. The operating manual for the LADA Granta car recommends changing it every 30 thousand km. In reality, the condition of the filter depends on the purity of the gasoline. Typically, car enthusiasts change it much more often - every 15 thousand kilometers or once a year.

How often should I replace it?

According to the factory maintenance schedule, replacing the Lada Granta fuel filter is prescribed at intervals of 30 thousand kilometers, although this value is very arbitrary: standing in a traffic jam with the engine running, the car does not accumulate mileage, but the filter continues to collect foreign particles from what we have commonly called gasoline.

In regions with traditionally low fuel quality, it makes sense to replace the filter every maintenance, especially since it is inexpensive. But this is useful twice: the car always has a guaranteed working filter, and the plastic quick-release fuel lines are less likely to become overgrown with dirt: after 30 thousand, the fasteners have to be carefully cleaned of sand so as not to break them when removing the filter.

An extraordinary replacement may be required if there is a noticeable decrease in engine response, or the appearance of dips during sharp accelerations: it is in these modes, when fuel consumption is maximum, that the increased resistance of the fuel line begins to “creep out.” More serious and sharply manifested symptoms (trips, dips already at medium speeds) already indicate problems with the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.
