DIY black optics
Tuning VAZ headlights in black is done using matte paint, tape, and a knife. The optics are first dismantled and the headlight glasses are separated from the body. The reflector is sealed with masking tape. The inner surface of the headlight is coated with black paint. Do the same with turn signals. If the glasses of the last element are red in color, then they are replaced with transparent analogues.
The next step involves fixing the headlight glass with sealant. Such tuning does not have a negative impact on the quality of the light beam of the optics. If necessary, you can install and connect fog lights on 2109 yourself. This optics is designed to improve illumination of the road surface during snowfall, fog or rain. Such tuning is performed using the following materials:
- wire with a cross-section of 1.25 sq. mm;
- narrow and wide terminal;
- relay;
- PTF power button;
- 2 fog lights;
- optics installation kit.
The button is first installed and connected. Models 2109 with a high panel have a regular place for the button. The grille is dismantled. The speaker is unscrewed. The latest device has 2 connectors for connecting the PTF power button and an indicator for this power-on.
The plug is removed. A button is mounted in its place. Electrical connectors are connected. The speaker and grille are installed in place. Under the hood, the mounting block, presented in the form of a black box, is unscrewed. The next stage involves laying the wire from the fog lights and from the relay mounting location to the mounting block.
Connectors Ш7 and Ш8 are disconnected from the black box. To insert the terminals, use the electrical diagram. The connectors are mounted into the fuse block. The black box is installed in place. The relay is screwed to the VAZ body. The contact is cleared of paint. Power wires are connected to optics. To secure the headlights, you will need to make a hole in the metal insert. The bumpers of some models have a standard hole for fixing the PTF. Brackets are used for this.
The rear lights of the VAZ 2109 have a special design. Such optics are characterized by rapid oxidation of contacts and failure of light bulbs. Auto mechanics recommend buying tuned taillights, taking into account certain factors. First you need to evaluate the appearance of the product. Rear lights must have seals where the housing contacts the body. Otherwise you will need a sealant.
If the lantern is not sealed, then there are gaps in the joints between its parts. It is recommended to buy tuned flashlights with separate sockets for each bulb. Auto mechanics do not recommend buying tinted rear lights. The quality of light should not affect safety.
To install the upgraded taillights yourself, you will need to remove the plastic panels from the luggage compartment. The electrical connector is disconnected. The nuts intended for fixing the headlight to the body are unscrewed. New optics are installed and screwed to the VAZ body. The connector is connected. To seal the joint, a sealant is used.

Replacing VAZ 2109 headlights
Task: restore factory headlights of a VAZ 2109.
In detail: After using the Prosport headlights for a short time, I was impressed by the quality of their light and decided to return the factory ones. Of course, putting the latter in order. There were several reasons for this. If we compare these headlights, then I found the following negative aspects of the prosprot for myself:
1. Low beam. At first everything was pretty good, the light was fine. But after I drove with ordinary eighth headlights, I felt the difference. Moreover, not in favor of tuning. 2. High beam. Or rather, its absence. The installed high-beam modules shined more to the sides than into the distance. 3. Turn signals. They seem to be there, but they don’t glow at all. These several half-dead diodes can hardly be seen only in the dark. Yes, even if the light is turned off. 4. Adjustments. Like high beams, there are none either. In principle, it is not critical. Considering that there is essentially nothing to regulate. Although there are some screws there, as you yourself understand, they are not very useful. 5. Glass. Or rather, plastic. He scratches willingly. After six months of driving, it certainly hasn’t turned yellow, but it requires polishing. It was necessary to glue a protective film, it would have looked much more alive.
The list goes on and on. Of course, I didn’t reveal any secrets, and complaining about Prosport optics is such a thing.
Theory At first I planned to completely wash down the optics with lenses and glass grinding, but in the end I decided against it. For now I decided to just tidy up the factory headlights. At this point I will describe in general terms the improvements to the front lighting. Maybe it will be useful to someone.
So, is there any point in such tuning? First, a little theory. All headlights can be divided into three types: reflector, modular and lensed.
Reflector headlights have a reflector, that is, a reflector. This is a concave mirror surface that forms a light beam of the desired shape. In modern headlights, the reflector has a stepped structure that looks like a faceted glass. In earlier headlights, the reflector is smooth, like that of the same nine. If there is one reflector in the headlight, then it is responsible for the low and high beam. If there are two reflectors, then such a headlight is called a two-section headlight. In it, one reflector is responsible for the near one, and the other for the far one. In turn, reflector headlights are divided into crystal and corrugated. Crystal are headlights with a segmented reflector and transparent glass or plastic. It is preferable to have headlights made of glass rather than plastic, since glass does not become cloudy, does not scratch, does not turn yellow and does not deteriorate the illumination of the road. However, plastic has an advantage - it is not as fragile as glass.
Another type of reflector headlights is corrugated. They are usually glass. Such headlights have a reflector and corrugated glass, that is, a diffuser that forms the luminous flux. These are the familiar headlights on VAZs.
The second type of headlights is modular. Or modular optics. In general, modules are independent sealed optical elements. They, like headlights, can be reflective or lensed. Separate high and low beam modules are installed in modular headlights. It also includes turn signals and dimensions. Instead of glass, a fiberglass mask is installed. For nine, I bought/installed a complete set and it costs between 11-15 thousand rubles.
Well, the last type of headlights is lensed. They are also floodlight optics. Consists of a converging lens. Often, such headlights use a mono lens (more details below) for low beam, and for high beam, a second section, a reflector, is installed in the headlight. But it is also not uncommon for headlights to use either one bi-lens or two mono-lenses (for low and high beam, respectively).
Lensed headlights have many advantages over reflective optics. For example, a lens in a headlight has a higher efficiency, that is, almost all the light falls on the roadway; moreover, a lensed headlight has more efficient light distribution - there is no bright spot of light in front of the car, that is, uniform illumination. At the same time, such a headlight has a clear cut-off line, a wider illuminated part of the road, and the sides of oncoming and passing directions are visible.
From this I concluded that the lensed headlight shines better than the factory reflector corrugated one. Actually, to upgrade a standard headlight, you need the lenses themselves and transparent glass.
As for the lenses. They are divided into two main types: mono lenses and bi lenses. Their difference lies in the fact that in a bi-lens the curtain can move, that is, it is possible to switch from low to high beam and vice versa. In a mono lens, the shutter does not move, so you can use either only low beam or only high beam, depending on the lens itself. In other words, you can’t put a two-filament H4 lamp into a mono lens and have a near and far one. Lenses are also divided according to the type of lamps used: halogen and xenon. As you know, the temperature from halogen lamps is much higher than xenon lamps. Therefore, halogen lenses differ from xenon lenses structurally, for example, by the presence of heat filters.
Well, you can’t insert an H7 halogen into a bi-xenon lens and drive quietly. There are many cases when glass, cartridges melt, lenses fail, and so on. And all because of ordinary overheating.
So, the conclusion is that in order to insert one lens into a headlight and have a low beam with a high beam, you need bi-lenses. Well, depending on the lamps used, these will be either bi-halogen or bi-xenon lenses. The latter are popular with pelvic specialists, because They are much cheaper than bi-halogen ones, they are much easier to get, there is a wide choice, and the light from xenon is many times superior to halogen. They have only one problem - gays
